Don't actively seek out sound for the first six or seven successes you have at skrying. Try to let this aspect of your astral senses just come to you. Follow the visions and possible noises for about five minutes. Go longer if you can remain focused and have the time, but longer than ten minutes will rarely yield new images, with the exception of a focused work, such as a communication with the dead (see chapter 1 3 ) .
After a few weeks of regular practice, you should find yourself entering the skrying state of mind with increasing ease and within a decreasing amount of time. W h e n you're confident that your abilities can be summoned with minimal effort, try attempting to skry with less initial preparation. First omit the autosuggestion, then experiment with trying to get into the right state with only a quick relaxation and a minute of inner quiet. W h e n you reach the point where skrying can be performed basically on call, you're ready to use it in a technique similar to the sensorydeprivation one given earlier in this chapter. T h i s listening to the night while skrying will both boost your ability to hear the unheard and provide you with more tangible impressions from the dark. Of course, no blindfold will be used, or no earplugs either, for that matter. Don't use skrying in the following fashion just for fun, however. Have some purpose or question when doing the following. You're about to see and hear advice from the night and the Gods of Old. T h e technique can be done with the inclusion of a nocturnal circle casting or only a banishing (your choice).
