Situationship – more than a crush … but less than a relationship. (Hammer, 2021) The word situationship came to existence when the 21-year-old Alana Morrison on the show Love Island USA, on July 10, 2019, she stated “I’ve never had a proper relationship. I’ve been in situationships but never an actual relationship.” This word became a hashtag on twitter and more people, especially young adults have used it to express their personal involvement with others. This is a word describing the relationship where no full commitment is being established but the importance of reoccurrence makes it relevant to the personal and romantic life of the adolescent. During this time, the individual is trying to explore the ways to learn about oneself and is going through anatomical, physiological, and endocrinological changes which lead to sexual drives to explore fantasies. During adolescence, the individual tries to clarify their sexual identity and find a sexual partner, which can lead to identify the person’s personality. The early stage of adolescence, known as puberty about twelve to fourteen years of age, is generally seen as the time of psycho-sexual changes where there is a greater influence into the psychic development of the person’s personality. Freud defines that a person’s personality is structured with lines as a marble and it could break into pieces when thrown on the ground because of underlining preexisting structures. (Waddell, p. 158). The individual starts to create the invisible lines that determines their personality at the most earlier relationship creates, the one with their mother. At different stages of life, people identify their persona related to the relationships or people present in their life and some time it is important to see oneself in the person’s or character’s shoes. The mother is the first persona who a baby has a relationship with and who serves as a role model into developing a individual’s personality. Later in life any relationships or encounters with

people have an impact on the development of the identity of the person as it is shown for Simon. (Waddell, p.159) It is important to identify that placing labels on human interactions can cause implications because it can define a person’s character by identifying our concerns and fears toward the outside world. Most growing and developing adolescents lack sexual maturity and fear intimacy, which could lead to cutting out any passionate or deep feelings relationship to a less important interaction as a situationship. Human interaction has a toll on the development of a person’s character and it affects youth’s health and well-being because by identifying this interaction as more important than a one time hook-up and less important than a long time relationship, the young adult tries to camouflage into someone that they are not or would like to be in the future. "And what’s crazy is soon as you fall back, they crawl back, saying they sorry and wait it all back." The word of the song Situationship by Fabulous shows that even though situationships are described as not very important, can be reversible when interest is shown from both parties involved. The word of the song states the importance of reoccurring of the situationship and the declaration of feelings through gestures (crawl). Many psychologists clearly identify the importance of relationships in a person’s development of character and personality and it seems that new studies need to show the relevance of these concepts to the term situationship.
