Exactly How Network Performance Management Functions One of the most significant things a business can do to optimize their computer network is to generate a network performance management system. Comparable to a high performing apparatus, the network must work efficiently or it could impact the overall system negatively. If the parts of the equipment aren’t the newest, most useful, it will fall behind the times. Just by following a few guidelines, most companies can improve the efficiency of the internet and maintain a nicely functioning network. First, make sure that you be aware of the upgradeable components of the network. On the information super highway, imagine your router as the freeway entrances and exits. If they are not properly maintained at all times or established with quality components, they have the ability to slow down traffic, making it more difficult to navigate. Computers within the network can interface with one another with a flip of a switch. A better speed is available with more modern switch models. Another section that can be improved significantly is through the type of cabling used. Capable of handling 100 MHz of bandwidth is definitely the CAT 8 cables. A CAT 6 cable or a gigabit Ethernet cable can be utilized which is able to handle up to 1000 MHz of bandwidth. It doesn’t do much good to have CAT 6 cabling if your computers can only receive and process 100 MHz of band width. The network interface card, or NIC, must be gigabit in your computers too. Most computers made within the last 2-3 years should have gigabit NICs standard. If your company uses wireless internet, the wireless router or access points will need to have 802.11n capable signal. The initial signal was 80211a, followed by b, g, and n. The most effective available and most widely used would be the wireless 802.11n signal. The wireless NICs for older computer systems may only be capable of 802.11g signals. You can buy wireless routers or access points which send 802.11bgn, which usually sends out signals for b, g, and n. All three can be considered on specific NICs. An 802.11n NIC is usually installed on newer computers. You could save a lot of time and money by monitoring your system and locating the source of the issue. There are programs available that would monitor this system periodically by pinging each individual program and device within the network which could include Zenoss and Alert Bot. A lot of these programs can monitor the system, locating the problems almost immediately. When it finds an issue, it will send an alert email for the network manager. Security measures goes hand in hand with network performance management. If your network is unprotected, you run the risk of allowing malware in to your network and on to your operating systems. Your network manager can also adjust the caliber of service for the network. This allows you to put priority on what your company will use the bandwidth for. If employees are streaming videos over the network, it will take up the bandwidth and slow your whole network. The network manager can alter the settings for different kinds of traffic like streaming, email and website traffic. If you want little or no priority going to streaming, and most of it going to email and online traffic, they can alter the settings to do so. The network can run more efficiently by using these simplified guidelines for enhanced network performance. While you would depend on employees to run a successful company, the same can be said about the network. The network is not any different. Take good care of your own network and it will take better care of you. Centina Systems, Inc.
