How many tournaments have you won? Herb: 60 tournaments, I don’t know how many trophies I still have around anymore. What is your favorite golf memory? Herb: When I beat Charley Sifford. Charley was the first African American to play on the PGA Tour. How much did it cost to play golf when you were a young boy? Herb: it cost around $7 for 18 holes What is the biggest difference between golf clubs from when you started to todays golf clubs? Herb: When I started playing golf the shafts were made out of Hickory tree branches and today’s modern golf clubs are made with graphite shafts and the balls travel much much farther. How many hole in ones have you made in your life? Herb: I’ve made 6 hole-in-ones in my life (Since my interview, Herb made his 7th hole-in-one on his 97th birthday) What is the lowest score you’ve ever had for 18 holes? Herb: 63 (-8) at the Bartow Golf Club. Who is your favorite golfer? Herb: Tiger Woods, I even got to play with him once What is your favorite golf course? Herb: Streamsong, I have never played there but it is still on my bucket list. What is the secret to your long and healthy life? Herb: I never drank, I never smoked, and I love to play golf every day!
