Over 65 years, IADS has grown to be the world’s largest dental student association, uniting students and dentists around the world to discuss and interact with one another. This year, Taiwan Dental Student Association, comprised of 7 universities in Taiwan, has recruited more than 70 people, setting forth to present our vision for the 2018 IADS Annual Congress. The congress offers students a unique opportunity where we will focus on current works of IADS, discussing the policies pertaining to future administration. Our conference also includes scientific competition. Furthermore, there will be amazing lectures and workshops delivered by the word-renowned lecturer. Last but not least, we have prepared exciting social events lined up for each night of the congress. The support we have received from our predecessors and government is overwhelming. IADS holds a spirit of friendship and cooperation across borders and a deeper understanding of culture. Our conference would not have been what it is today if it were not for your university’s merit. Therefore, on behalf of IADS, we warmly invite you to join us and embark upon this collective journey with the brilliant minds of dentistry from all over the world. All kinds of art activities are held irregularly in the District, bringing a rich artistic air to the port metropolis of Kaohsiung, and also bringing a new tide of southern art in Kaohsiung. POST TOUR TAINAN

Jing Zai Jiao Aping Old Fort Old Talt Confucious Temple

Provintia Crystal Church Sio House Sicao Green Tunnel

Built during the 23rd year of the reign of Jiacing in the Qing dynasty (A.D. 1818), the Jingzaijiao Tiled Salt Fields were formerly known as Laidong Salt Fields. The site was originally a barren desert. Lying on the sandy beach is a small sand dune, where underground water gushes out from low-lying ground forming a well-like structure. The name, Jiingzaijiao, was essentially derived from this particular landscape formation. To prevent salt crystals from attaching to the soil, salt miners at Pottery Dish Salt Field manually laid out broken debris of pottery onto the crystallizing ponds of salt fields. This approach resulted in purer and clearer salt being mined. Under the sunshine, the Pottery Salt Pan displays a resplendent, mosaic like pattern. These features make it a unique cultural landscape of the homeland of salt. Today, it has become an excellent site for tourists to experience salt drying.

16

In 1624, Dutch built the first fort in Anping, Taiwan, called "Fort Zeelandia", now known as Anping Fort, where has been the administrative center of the Dutch regime, and the hub for trading. The building was originally constructed in square inner fortress and rectangle outer walls. In 1661, the fort was renamed as Anping to commemorate his home town when Guoxingye (Cheng ChengKung) has driven the Dutch out of Taiwan. Therefore, Fort Zeelandia was also known as "King's Fort or“ Taiwan Fort", nicknamed Anping Fort.

17

Tait & Co had undergone several changes since it was established. Tait & Co was one of the foreign trading companies that was permitted by the Qing Government to operate opium, camphor, sugar and tea trading until Japanese colonized Taiwan. During the period of Japanese colonization, opium and camphor were monopolized by the Japanese government, which led to decline of foreign firms except Tait & Co. The company had its big change in 1911, when all the foreign firms in Anping were closed, and the Japanese government turned it to a salt company, and was used as the office of the Tainan Salt Works after the retrocession of Taiwan. Today, the Old Tait & Co Merchant House has transformed to a wax museum (Taiwan Development Wax Museum), which displays the immigrants’ life in Taiwan’s history, from aboriginal period to the arrival of the Chinese and Europeans. A number of lifelike wax figures of humans and animals, as well as fabulous artifacts that are dated more than a century.

18

The Confucius Temple in Tainan was built in 1666, it was the first Confucius Temple, before the end of Manchu Dynasty, it was the location of the highest official institute of higher learning in Taiwan. The Taiwan Palace of "Confucianism Study," it owned the incompatible position of culture and education, and was called "The Highest Institute." The Confucius Temple has been through more than thirty times of reconstruction, a part of the building was destroyed during the wars or ruined by nature disasters; the present scale of the Confucius Temple was the look after reconstructing during the time when Japanese were ruling (1917), its elegant and simple localization characteristic takes a distinctive attitude of its own among the Confucius Temples buildings in Taiwan. There are fifteen structures inside the Confucius Temple, the primary sacrifices in the palace is to Confucius divine tablet, on both sides, the sacrifices are to the sixteen pupils of Confucius.

19

Crystal Church is located in the north bank of Zhu-Tu-Gou which is located between Zhoubei Salt Fields and Zhongzhou Salt Fields. In the vast, flat western coast, salt fields are the largest land scene in early years that stand out from the surface of the ground as salt is heaped into small hills. Crystal Church adopts large heaps of salts connected with small heaps to form different shapes, taking white of the salts as the main color tone and crystal-clear color of salt crystals as its idea generation and combining church ideas once consoling numerous patients with blackfoot disease (gangrene) that earned the church its current name. Crystal Church which was open in 2014 is one attractive spot for couples to take wedding pictures. This church gives tourists access to a broader and boundless view, and it overlooks Xishan (Xi Mountain), Kau-un-Khun and BromineMaking Tower from the south side. Tourists can drive westbound toward Jing-Zai-Jiao Salt Fields.

21

The Chinese style towers are built on top of an old Dutch fort called Provintia. You can still see some of the original brick foundations of this fort in certain areas of the site. It would seem hard to believe now, but at the time of the Dutch, Fort Provintia was oceanfront property. The land to the northwest of Chikan Lou has been transformed due to natural silting and man-made landfill. When the hero of Taiwan, Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga), landed his army to take Taiwan from the Dutch, he used his ships to cut off the waters between Fort Provintia and Fort Zeelandia in Anping – a thought that seems impossible given the structure of modern Tainan.

20

In the days when salt was controlled by the Japanese government, the century-old house located near Anping Old Street served as an office for storage, selling, and inspection of salt. Since the salt was no longer exclusively sold by the government, the house was abandoned. In 2010, the house listed as a historical site in Tainan was renovated and open to the public as a place combining sightseeing and cultural history. Its Chinese name Xiyou Chuzhangsuo is derived from Japanese. "Xiyou" is pronounced like "sio," which means salt in Japanese, and "Chuzhangsuo" represents a temporary office used on business travel. Yet it’s not the historical stories that make Sio House a popular attraction. It is the management team who promotes it in clever ways. Taking salt as the starting point, they exhibit some sculpture made of salt in the Japanese house. They also develop a variety of colorful salt representing the 365 days in a year with a short blessing tagged on it. You can find the one dedicated to your birthday on the self and buy it as a souvenir.

22

The Sicao Green Tunnel is the canal which served Tainan. Today, it sits in the middle of a mangrove forest and the trees leaning towards the water have created a stunning natural tunnel which is increasingly popular with Taiwanese tourists. It can only be visited by boat, but there are plenty available from the nearby Dazhong Temple. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen here too, including various different species of crab and mudskippers. If you are really adventurous, you can also take a boat trip to explore the nearby Sicao Lake, where you can see jumping fish, lots of birds, and more stunning natural scenery.
