Global Perspective f or Nursi n g
Students, Faculty and Alumni from the School of Nursing remain deeply engaged in global health issues, carrying the Mission of Edgewood College to many in need. Jennifer Weitzel, RN, MSN is a Lecturer at the College. She’s one of the driving forces behind Health Ministries for Haiti, a non-profit group dedicated to “working side-byside with our Haitian brothers and sisters to transform, educate and equip communities to reach and maintain the highest levels of physical and spiritual health.” Our students participate in mission trips to that island nation. Most recently, Brittani Kessenich ’13 traveled with the group – just after December 2012 Commencement ceremonies.

Claude Rochon, RN, MSN ’12, also a Lecturer in Nursing, has launched International Service Learning in Cambodia, an experiential course for our student nurses. An annual effort, the second cohort will travel in May 2013 to assist in well-child assessments at Cambodian School Project Schools. Interestingly, the Cambodian School Project was launched by Sarith Ou ’93, who currently splits his time between Madison and Cambodia. Rachel Rodriguez RN, Ph.D., FAAN, an Associate Professor, is currently serving as a visiting professor at the Kamuzu College of Nursing in the African nation of Malawi. Through the Fulbright Scholarship awarded to her, she mentors new Ph.D. faculty in research, and teaches in the graduate program in the newly-developed Community Health Nursing specialty program. She continues to develop the Malawi Women’s Health program, a project she’s been leading for the past year.
