UAP District D-1 celebrates National Architecture Week 2013

THE United Architects of the Philippines in Davao will celebrate this year’s National Architecture Week (NAW) 2013 come December 8-14, 2013 with week-long activities and corporate social responsibility programs geared at giving back to society. This year, the NAW celebration kicks off at the spacious SM City Davao Annex featuring Architectural exhibits and works of the ‘Forefathers of Davao Architecture’ and other projects of Davao Architects on December 8-10, 2013. This year’s theme “Aligning with the Global Skyline” not only speaks of what the architects have done to change the physical landscape of the country and the world in general, but also speaks of what the architects can do and give back to society. Following the architectural Exhibits which will commence with a cutting of the Ribbon at 10am on December 8, the architects, guests and SM City Davao personnel will have a short Welcome program led by Mall Manager Lynette Lopez. Joining her are UAP District Director of District D-1, Ar. Benjamin K. Panganiban Jr., UAP Kadayawan Davao Pres. Leonida D. Santos, and all the Chapter Presidents of District D-1, before the exhibits will be opened to the public. A motorcade in the morning of December 10, 2013 around the city will significantly thrust the architect’s role and presence in the city. It will soon be followed by a Courtesy Visit to the Mayor’s Office and a Welcome Lunch. In the afternoon, the venue shifts back to the spacious SM City Davao Annex where intense competition among architectural schools in Davao City composed of the University of the Philippines, University of Mindanao and the Ateneo De Davao University will be held at the Event Center from 1pm onwards. This will include the announcement of winners for the on-the-spot rendering contests and a brief launching of the Gawad Kalinga Design Competition. The last day of this celebration on Saturday, December 14, will be a culmination in the form of a teleconference with other architects nationwide as the National Architecture Week is celebrated all over the country. This teleconference will link-up Clark, Pampanga, Cebu City, Davao City and Manila in the evening with reports and activities explained in a “petchaKucha” setting or video-conference setting.
