Inoculation, not mercy killing
Pfizer, the American pharma whose claim to fame among aging lotharios is related to Viagra, the booster it discovered by accident, has invented Pfizer and BioNTech’S Covid-19 vaccine. Unfortunately, the vaccine which Filipinos are considering to buy, is suspected to be behind the death of 23 senior citizens aged 80 and above after receiving vaccine jabs in Norway days ago. It is said that some 400 senior citizens die in Norway’s nursing homes every week as if suggesting that the death of 23 inoculated elderlies should not surprise anyone anymore. Still, the Norwegian government has stopped the use of the vaccine on the terminally-ill. But of course, we are talking about vaccinating the citizens to protect them from Covid-19, not euthanasia or

mercy-killing which is allowed in some Scandinavian countries like Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Filipinos, whose lawmakers are hotly debating over what vaccine brands to buy, ought to pay attention carefully to the Norway experience. The lawmakers / investigators should focus on all three important aspects -- efficacy, price and safety of the vaccines being offered in the market. Meanwhile, it will not be surprising if Filipino senior citizens, a number of them are politicians and government functionaries will hesitate to be vaccinated.
