van delivery process allows heavier items such as packages and parcels to be delivered in one visit, this will make a massive impact on the carbon reduction. The fact is come hail, rain or shine the team of 73 at the Penrith Delivery Office will guarantee that you get your mail – and please remember that this team of people deliver to some pretty rural places, travelling through 2 or 3 fields just to ensure that the mail is hand delivered everyday. The Penrith Delivery Office centre has approximately 17,000 delivery points every day, which covers the CA10 and CA11 postcodes, centred around the sorting office built back in the 1960’s. It has 638 collection visits every day and operates from 5.30am – 8pm. For a town postie they will only spend 3.5 hrs of their day actually delivering mail the rest is all in the preparation and sorting that is part of the process. A rural postman can be out delivering for up to 6 hours.
