Dear Residents and Businesses Welcome to the first Eden Valley CA Business Directory Around 15,000 doors in the Eden Valley are familiar with the monthly free publication, Eden Local, which is currently delivered through business and residential addresses in CA11 and CA10 1 by Royal Mail. The Eden Valley CAB Directory, you now have is a product produced by Eden Local. This directory you are now reading is our first attempt, a pilot, to reach more of the Eden Valley, with a view to extending our current delivery zone. The Eden Local monthly magazine is available to read on line every month for free at www.edenlocal.co.uk and if you would like to suggest a location in your village where you would like to have some paper copies of the publications dropped every month for collection, please let us know at info@edenlocal.co.uk The Eden Local publication was launched in November 2010 to promote local businesses and support the local economy in Eden Valley. This had to be done at affordable prices for all parties. We needed affordable costs for businesses to advertise, which would help cover the cost of a small team, the print, the design, the distribution and the normal costs associated with a small business. It is written by a local team, some volunteers and it is printed in Penrith and delivered via Royal Mail every month. Eden Local was the main marketing tool used to promote the campaign for the Eden Valley to have its own community radio station. On 25th November 2011, Eden FM community radio switched on for its first licenced trial transmission.
It couldn’t reach everyone, but was available online 24 hours a day and is still available at www. edenfmradio.co.uk. It is a radio run by local volunteers, presented by local volunteers and it is free to be used by any charity, organisation or group to promote events, local news and anything that is local and stands for supporting local people and local business in the community. To run a local community radio requires a lot of equipment and support from people. To help Eden FM Radio Ltd, which is a ‘not for profit’ organisation, CA Business was launched. The product you now have is the printed directory, but CA Business is also an on-line directory, which is maintained locally. The annual subscription to be in the on-line directory as a business and in the printed Eden Valley Directory in 2013, is around 41p per day - £150 per year, which can be paid in instalments. £30 of this money will go towards the Eden FM Radio project, which makes Eden Local and CA Business a

key fundraiser for the project. Some businesses have chosen this time to go only into the printed directory. It all helps in bringing a collaboration of businesses of all sizes together, towards supporting one project that generally in the long term, all can benefit from in the Eden Valley community. I cannot stress enough what a fantastic achievement it is by a collective group of over 120 local businesses.
