Paul Fuentebella talks his YouTube channel and everything streetwear.

Including an insight into the world of YouTube and how his content resonates with the streetwear community on YouTube.

An unfamiliar name maybe, but an influencer and an inspiration for many budding streetwear guys out there.

Situated in the Los Angeles suburbs of California, Paul Fuentebella established Locust & Wild Honey, a YouTube channel that talks about, reviews, vlogs and most of all educates audiences about the culture of men’s streetwear.

We spoke to Paul about his rise on YouTube, and what makes him get up every day and record videos about men’s streetwear for his large following.

Coming from humble beginnings, the YouTube sensation has now amassed a following on the video sharing site of around 50,000 subscribers and it’s growing to say the least. Paul told UN:

first started my channel, I never thought I would reach out to so many different people, not just in the US but across the world too.”

Streetwear culture is popular finding on YouTube, with many channels specialising in this subject. Paul spoke about what makes his channel different and how he started out on YouTube.

“I started out just doing like sneaker reviews for a different channel. I did gain a fair number of followers however I wanted to branch out more, and cover men’s fashion and not just sneakers. Now my channel, Locust & Wild Honey, is I’d say more of a men’s lifestyle/fashion channel. I cover like day to day stuff as well as trips to the mall and use these to incorporate challenges like

The news of Virgil Abloh’s appointment as Louis Vuitton’s Creative Director has revolutionised the world of streetwear, from being Kanye West’s stylist to becoming the CD of one the largest fashion houses in the world is somewhat phenomenal, Edward Baldwin brings you a time-line of how Virgil has made it to the very top.

ff-White founder, Kanye West’s creative director and designer of coveted trainers, Virgil Abloh has had a distinguished fashion career to say the least.

From humble beginnings in Chicago being raised by Ghanaian immigrants, Abloh has rocketed to worldwide fame with his unique look on fashion. In 2009, Abloh started out as an intern at Fendi in Rome. Abloh got his first taste of a European fashion house, this came with its perks, as he got to meet, and become friends with, world renowned rapper Kanye West.

This is where Abloh’s career really took off, assuming the role of creative director at Donda West’s creative agency in 2010.

He then went onto establish his own brand Pyrex Vision, in New York. He purchased deadstock Ralph Lauren flannel shirts for £35 each, and screen printed

them with the word Pyrex and the number 23, an homage to his childhood hero, Michael Jordan. They now sell at upwards of £500 each.

The year that stands out from most of this time-line especially for those who love trainers, then look no further than 2017.

UN looks at some of the top men’s streetwear YouTubers you should be watching for spring/summer 2018.

Jake Daniels is definitely your go-to guy when you need some serious fashion advice. With a subscription number of just over 300,000, Jake not only shows viewers how to dress but he sits down and actually explains the construction behind an outfit.

One of his specialities, includes letting his viewers know what trendy item they need in their wardrobe, like he does in his ‘How to Style Vans’ video.

Gallucks aka Joel McLoughlin is a minimalistic fashion streetwear YouTuber who specialises in high fashion. With a wide of range of content including, room tours, trainer reviews and unboxing videos, you are sure to get a variety of style suggestions and inspiration from the London-based curator.

Harrison Nevel combines grunge with street, wearing a lot of Vans and Comme des Garçons Converse which are perfect for the summer months. His videos are great if you like ‘mystery box’ videos where he pays in excess of £300 to £500 for a box of streetwear items that he has no clue of whats inside. This months ‘focus’ looks at trainers. What are the most hyped trainers right now? The best trainers for summer? And what trainers never go out of fashion?

Off White x Nike: The Ten When it comes to hype, look no further than Off White’s collaboration with Nike for The Ten collection. The silhouhettes designed by Virgil Abloh have revolutionised the trainer game. The deconstructed look on some of Nike’s classic shoes from over the years have completely taken the streetwear world by storm. The Jordan 1, arguably the poster trainer of The Ten has been quoted to have sold for upwards of £2,000.

RUNNERS Runners have been a streetwear staple for years now, but it’s the new technology being introduced that is the ground-breaker for these timeless shoes. For example the Nike Flyknit Trainer (pictured right), was the first real trainer to break from just ‘running use’. They became a lifestyle shoe, and this particular model is nicknamed the ‘YeKnit’ as Kanye West wore them to the ground back in 2012. A new breed of running/lifestyle shoes have taken over however, being the Adidas Ultra Boost and the new Nike silhouette the Epic React.

SUMMER SNEAKS If your looking for a pair of summer creps, the Comme des Garcons x Converse collaboration is a must have.

Priced at around ÂŁ90 for the model (right), these trainers are Converse, but with a high fashion flavour. Easy to wear with shorts and would look great on a sunny beach.

CLASSICS The Vans Old Skool, a classic shoe for any streetwear fanatic. The first to bear the iconic side stripe, the Vans Old Skool is a low top, lace-up shoe which combines skate and style. Other styles including the Vans Sk8-Hi are popular among the streetwear community, however the Vans Old Skool is simply timeless and a must for spring/summer seasons.

Liverpool This month’s focus city is the ‘boss’ city of Liverpool, based in the North West of England, it is known for it’s friendly scousers and vibrant culture. UN sent Ed Baldwin to explore the streets, and find some of the best and most experimental outfits around.
