PUBLIC POLICY TASK FORCE
Washington, D.C. Trip/2022 – Highlights A leadership team organized by the Economic Alliance traveled to D.C. (April 26 -28) and was led by Local Elected Officials, Business Organizations & Associations, Educational Partners, Port Houston Advocates and the Private Sector. Over 3 days the 20-person Economic Alliance Leadership Team conducted 23 meetings with Senate, Congressional and Association representatives, along with a Congressional Dinner to discuss the Houston Port regions Federal Policy Priorities. The trip began with a welcome dinner hosted by the Economic Alliance in partnership with the Greater Houston Partnership, Dallas Regional Chamber and Fort Worth Chamber to receive updates from Texas' U.S. senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz on current federal issues. Keynote speaker, Roman Popadiuk, first United States Ambassador to Ukraine, serving under President George H.W. Bush offered historical insight leading up to the current Ukraine/Russian conflict and its impact on the global economy.
The 2022 Federal Policy White Paper Priorities included:
1. Houston Ship Channel Infrastructure Investment and Widening 2. Community College Federal Priorities for Workforce Opportunities 3. Support for Innovation in Petrochemical Production, Sustainability/Use and Advanced Recycling Techniques 4. Coastal Barrier- Hurricane Surge Protection

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TASK FORCE
The Economic Development Taskforce held its May meeting at the Health and Safety Council™ (HASC™). The council serves the Texas Gulf Coast and beyond. With a comprehensive offering of industry solutions, facilitating and simplifying the training process for employers to ensure training is consistent and verifiable. HASC serves 3,000 member companies and an additional 12,000 non-member companies, providing a wide range of integrated industry solutions. The Women in Alliance Committee hosts 3 Women Leadership Luncheons a year and the Economic Alliance Annual Membership Banquet. WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT TASK FORCE
Dr. Allatia Harris, Workforce Task Force Chairman and Vice Chancellor of San Jacinto College welcomed attendees of the Workforce Task Force meeting on April 21 to the San Jacinto College Maritime Campus located in La Porte, Texas. Shari Carter, Lee College instructor, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, explained the programs available to those interested in Logistics and Supply Chain. Currently, options are available in credit and non-credit courses and many future pathways are in the works with a focus on creating cross-credit for industry certifications. Taking one of the first Port Houston ship channel tours since 2020, our Workforce Task Force boarded the M/V Sam Houston on June 30 at The San Jacinto State Park near The Battleship Texas. Port Houston generously provided a delicious BBQ lunch to our members. Speaking about Maritime Education, our guest speaker was Jacquie Young-Hall, Maritime Education Outreach Manager. She shared with us the multiple schools with maritime academies and the programs that students were in and certifications earned. Randy Boeding, The R. Boeding Group. LLC shared his expertise from 30+ years in the petrochemical industry to help us understand what happens at the many plants located along the Houston Ship Channel. His vast knowledge was appreciated by the many school district representatives that joined us. BUSINESS GROWTH TASK FORCE
The Business Growth Task Force continues to meet the first Wednesday of each month. Committee members share business updates and hear from one company each meeting in what we call a “Membership Spotlight” where the member spotlighted at that meeting shares more in dept about their business. This committee is preparing to host the next Industrial Procurement Forum at the San Jacinto College – Lyondellbasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy, and Technology campus on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
