University of Central Florida student Casey Glazer went from making fun movies with his siblings as a kid, to now directing award winning short films. “I was just way too into movies as a kid,” Glazer said. “When I found out how they made movies,it was the coolest thing ever,” Glazer currently has made seven short films, but he considers only two are actually bearable to watch. “Making all these short films has kind of been rough,” Glazer said. “Deciding what people think is cool and would want to watch has been a challenge. His most recent short film, “Blitz”, is about a robbery gone wrong that turns into a big fightscene. The camera takes you through four locations in one shot to show viewers all the events leading up to the grand fight scene.
“Blitz” won multiple awards in the 2021 Campus Movie Fest including Golden Tripod Finalist, Campus Finalist, Silver Tripod Winner for Directing, and was rated in the National Top 25. Nathan Castro, who played a robber in “Blitz”, said he was more excited for Glazer than anything after hearing about the awards. “I heard the idea for ‘Blitz’ and knew I would do anything to make it happen for him,” Castro said. “After seeing the final result proves that all the hard work was worth it.” Glazer considers himself a pretty happy person, but when directing, his films tend to have the same dark, eerie tone to them. His short film “Box Cutter” you see a couple in the middle of a fight when a strange package arrives at their door. The very first scene is silent shot of the girl messing with a box cutter and all the audience hears is the sound of a box cutter clicking in and out. Suspension builds up as the girls begins to. Unbox a package that reveals her boyfriend’s heart inside. Once the girls takes the heart out of the box, and eerie smiles creeps on her face. “I feel like I’m not a very dark person so maybe it’s just that side of me trying to come out,” Glazer said.
