LETTER FROM
THE PRESIDENT When my wife and I moved to downtown Kansas City 20 years ago, the area looked dramatically different. While we loved our loft, the basic amenities were lacking. There were a few restaurants, but many were places my dad would have gone to for a corporate dinner in the ’70s or ’80s. There just wasn’t anywhere for people like us to hang out. We were able to overlook downtown KC’s flaws until we had our first child. Like pioneers giving up on the frontier, we moved to the suburbs. We just couldn’t argue with the good schools and family support. Luckily, a group of visionary entrepreneurs emerged with the resources and guts to transform the city into something we early adopters had envisioned for years. Since then, Kansas City has become one the Midwest’s cultural hubs. There are a lot of reasons for the transformation and many groups should get credit, including The Cordish Companies. When the city was a diamond in the rough, The Cordish Companies had the vision to transform KC into a new kind of city. As a native Kansas Citian, it’s an honor to help my hometown fulfill its potential, and the Power & Light District will continue to play a key role in the next wave of our city’s development. My philosophy is simple: As we continue to improve the downtown experience, we’ll attract the type of innovative business opportunities Kansas City has deserved for years.

IN THE COMMUNITY Community is the key to everything we do in the Power & Light District. We’re fortunate to have the opportunity to support local organizations and efforts both financially and through a variety of our in-kind services, including event spaces, mentoring, internships, sponsorships, catering, gift card and ticket donations for silent auctions and more.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY KCP&L District team members participated in and sponsored City Year’s Day of Service to honor Dr. King with a physical service project and virtual learning centered on social justice. See a recap of the 2022 Day of Service. TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY KCP&L District team members surprised teachers and staff of several Kansas City Public Schools, including Faxon Elementary, Garfield Elementary and Lincoln College Prep, with cookies. In addition, several businesses throughout the district offered teachers specials all week long. EARTH DAY In honor of Earth Day, KCP&L District employees hosted a cleanup day at Kessler Park to pick up litter and beautify the area. PRIDE CROSSWALK The District partnered with the MidAmerica LGBT Chamber of Commerce to install a “Power of Pride” crosswalk at 14th and Main on December 9, 2021. The crosswalk was installed to promote inclusion for the LGBTQ community throughout the district.

KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP Since 2019, the Power & Light District has partnered with the Kansas City Public Schools Education Foundation to find ways to support students and teachers through a variety of donations, volunteer opportunities and special programming. In addition, each year, a KCPS teacher has been awarded a two-year lease in either One Light or Two Light Luxury Apartments. Learn more about the partnership.

LIVING IN P&L One Light and Two Light Luxury Apartments were awarded SEVEN CRYSTAL MERIT AWARDS by the Apartment Association of Kansas City in early 2022, including Property of the Year. The Crystal Merit Awards honor the best in multifamily development and management and outstanding individuals, teams and properties for their accomplishments in the industry.
MORE THAN 30,000 residents live in downtown Kansas City, half of whom are young people. There’s been a 75% INCREASE in the downtown population since 2020. 60% of One Light and Two Light residents are moving to Kansas City from out of market.
