After deciding that it was time for a return of youth theatre to Mullumbimby, theatrical director and president of the Drill Hall Committee Michael Borenstein went in search of a play that was relevant to a young cast and a young audience and Chatroom, by Irish playwright Enda Walsh, fitted the bill. ‘The play investigates online communities and social networking,’ says Michael. ‘Although it deals with issues of bullying, depression, suicide and identity, it doesn’t feel like an “issues play”. As well as resonating with young people, the play gives adults a look into their domain of online communication.’ The cast of Chatroom has been rehearsing for about six weeks at the theatre and they are getting into the last few technical stages before the run-up to opening night. The players Henry Gooley, Akasha Ahrens, Savannah Mitch-

ell, Marnie Johnston, Fletcher Gooley and Reubin Haig range from 15 to 19 years in age. The Drill Hall Theatre Company has a group of directors who are currently working on the 2010 season under the stewardship of our artistic director Mike Russo. They are currently running free acting workshops every Thursday evening and will be shortly running a workshop on lighting, sound and stage management. ‘We want to provide an opportunity for young people to use and develop their acting skills and to attract a young audience to the magic of live
