E N T E R T A I N M E N T BRAITHWAITE, MORRIS, JONES & THISTLETHWAYTE: FABULOUS!

The Regent will open before and after the show so that folks can also socialise over dinner or a drink.

What happens when you mix a bit of Southern Sons, a splash of Thirsty Merc, a dash of Sherbet, and toss in some Morris for good measure?

Queerstories is Auslan interpreted. Queerstories , Murwillumbah. Saturday 26 June. Dinner and drinks from 6pm. Performance is 7–9pm. The Regent, 5 Brisbane Street, Murwillumbah. $30 Concession, $35 Adult +booking fee. Bookings: the-regent.com.au/film/queerstories.

You get The Fabulous Caprettos; a concoction comprising Daryl Braithwaite, Russell Morris, Jack Jones and Rai Thistlethwayte. The four friends are coming together to perform for the first time as a fabulous band. It doesn’t take much imagination to know that these shows will be something special as the audience can see and hear all artists together on stage for the entire duration of the concert. The Fabulous Caprettos will perform their hits and favourites and other songs that will be heard for the first time at these shows.

THE REGENT GOES QUEER WITH UNEXPECTED STORIES

There will be a souvenir program with Bonus CD available for purchase exclusively at the shows.

Australia’s favourite LGBTQIA+ storytelling night is bound for The Regent. The much-loved, critically acclaimed event Queerstories is coming to Murwillumbah for the very first time.

Daryl Braithwaite is showing no signs of slowing down. Always a fine interpreter of songs, singer/front man/songwriter from his early days with ‘70s supergroup Sherbet to his highly successful solo career today (who hasn’t heard ‘Horses’ right?). The past seven years have been an incredible musical journey for both Russell and his fans, fortunate enough to create and release three award winning albums of blues and roots music and to be in the top ten albums of 2019 with his new Black & Blue Heart album. Jack Jones was still a teenager when he found fame in Southern Sons, who went on to become one of the most loved Australian bands of the ‘90s. Jack is one of Australia’s most talented singers/songwriters and guitarists. Founding member and singer/songwriter for Thirsty Merc, Rai Thistlethwayte is still as thirsty as ever, creating and performing a swag of his classic tracks. The Fabulous Caprettos, for one night only at Casino RSM. Thursday 1 July, 8pm seated.

ARIES: Any of your 2021 plans come to fruition yet? Great, then it’s time to celebrate! If you’ve veered off-purpose, this is a good week to coursecorrect. Think about the future you want to create, because what better time to galvanize your goals than this year’s full moon in Capricorn on 25 June. TAURUS: Other people’s motives may not be entirely transparent this week, so if you get a sketchy vibe or iffy feeling that you’re being manipulated, step away and let things play out. Good news? Your prima planet Venus in the sign of flash, flourish and flair insists on styling up your personal presentation. GEMINI: The relief’s palpable this week as Mercury heads out of its three-week retrograde in your sign, which doubled its signal-jamming impact on communications with colleagues, neighbours, family and friends. Time now to extend the olive branch, tune your listening antennae, schedule some heart-to-hearts and bring back the love. CANCER: For you lunar creatures, this week’s full moon brings an opportunity to balance commitments between family and career, personal roots and public direction. It’s a good time to get clear about partnership responsibilities and nail down business agreements with colleagues before agreements get tested in early July.

Fast becoming an institution around the country, Queerstories, has seen more than 250 LGBTQIA+ storytellers take to the stage over the past five years, from Melbourne to Mudgee, Sydney to Shepparton, Adelaide to Albury and beyond. Patrons can expect a night of hilarious and heart-warming stories on stage, celebrating the local LGBTQIA+ community, at the newly refurbished, The Regent. The award-winning show has been brought to the Northern Rivers in partnership with Queer Family Inc, a local not-forprofit that reduces social isolation and improves mental health by providing safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ people to connect and build community. Queerstories has proved an instant hit in the region, with sold out shows in Mullumbimby and Byron Bay.

VIRGO: June comes into its own for Virgos this week with the return of Mercury’s sense of humour, when you can finally see the funny side of this month’s mishaps and mayhem. Communications get back on track, and things you thought done and dusted start looking ready for another round. LIBRA: Venus in Leo asks, ‘Have you become so attached to an image of yourself that you no longer see your shadow?’ Good to get a reality check on that from inner-circle supporters. And maybe put yourself on a crash cash diet; with this week’s retrogrades, retail therapy and buyer’s remorse could go hand in hand. SCORPIO: With astral energy heading into the sign of natural nurturing, this week asks how can you feather the family nest and make home feel more like a cozy sanctuary? It also suggests you start thinking self-nourishing rituals – and is there someone you’d like to get to know better?

Did you know BayFM is a registered charity? That means you can support your favourite radio station with a donation AND reduce your tax bill at the same time. With the end of June not far away now’s the time to do it. Through your donation, we get some of the tax dollars you would have had to pay anyway. Sounds like a win-win! Visit bayfm.org/support or call 6680 7999 Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm. Thank you!

Queerstories creator Maeve Marsden says the premise of Queerstories is simple. ‘We invite a range of LGBTQI+ people to share a personal story, but the focus is on the unexpected, on the stories people want to tell, instead of those often expected of queer people.

Sun in oceanic Cancer, plus Neptune and Jupiter retrograde in tidal Pisces promises a watery, emotional week… LEO: When glamazon Venus joins me-first Mars in Leo this week for a fiery pas de deux in the Lion’s den, dadaaah! Take it away your furry, purring majesties. Keep your performance user-friendly though. Resist playing diva, and some attractive potential could manifest, including a romantic reboot and/or creative renaissance.

Support BayFM. Save on tax. Everybody wins!

SAGITTARIUS: Tune into the deeper, more profound communications beyond social media spruiking, and stay calm through this week’s irritable, unpredictable outbursts. If you start getting triggered, especially at home, don’t log in. Channel antsy energy into something positive and useful. If others aren’t appreciating your adventurous intentions, fly solo. CAPRICORN: You have plenty to say this week, and with exacting Saturn bringing its expertise and mastery to your communications, you’ll be able to say it in a way that others can take in. On a personal note, full moon in your sign highlights some outdated narratives it’s way past time to delete. AQUARIUS: Even with the current outer planetary retrograde stay-put, goingnowhere, clipped-wing, closed-in scenario, you can still move about locally. Or else where Aquarians travel best: their minds. If the grass is looking greener in everyone else’s yard, start zooming cross-cultural connections and sharing what you have with others. PISCES: Neptune and Jupiter both powering down in Pisces is not the time to be gullible or naive, so honour your instincts and intuition this week, but also get some professional second opinions and reality checks from straight-talking friends. It’s essential right now to maintain strong, healthy boundaries.

‘I often say, “there’s more to being queer than coming out and getting married”, and that’s really true at Queerstories, where the stories and narrative styles of the performers are always so diverse.’ Queer Family founder Aiden Gentle (they/them) hosts the local shows, which feature a new cast each performance BBFM_Echo Ads_85x148mm_17122020-v4-outlines.indd 1 focusing on local community creatives and heroes.
