Liz Chance in rehearsals with the cast of SHIT at the Drill Hall in Mullum.
LIZ CHANCE IS A VETERAN OF STAGE AND SCREEN AND REMEMBERS HER FIRST BIG BREAK INTO THEATRE WHEN SHE WAS DISCOVERED IN AN ACTING CLASS WITH THE GREAT STELLA ADLER. With more than 30 years’ experience as an actor, Liz has appeared in more Australian television than she can remember, including: A Country Practice, Home & Away, Water Rats, Blue Heelers, Rafferty’s Rules, G.P, and admits her first stage kiss was with Mel Gibson when working with the Sydney Theatre Company. For more than a decade, Liz also directed and taught at Australia’s premier acting school NIDA, teaching Australian luminaries including Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, Sam Worthington, Jeremy Simms, and Damon Gameau. ‘Still, to this day, there’s hardly a film, TV or theatre show where I don’t see one of my students popping up.’ ‘It’s so wonderful to see them develop as actors and human beings. Damon Gameau for instance. I adored him at NIDA, but am now even more proud to
see what he’s achieving for action on climate change.’ When Liz relocated to Mullumbimby, she changed her focus to raising her young family and a serious veggie garden, and almost twenty years later, the self-confessed hermit was plucked from the garden to be appointed as the new Artistic Director of the Drill Hall Theatre Company. In 2021, the future of theatre has never been more uncertain, and COVID-19 could be the most formidable antagonist Liz has ever played opposite, but with COVIDsafe plans in place, Liz has announced a gripping program of theatre and workshops, set to explode onto the stage this March with those tough bitches from SHIT, under her direction. Visit drillhalltheatre.org.au for workshops and program details.
