LEMON CHICKEN AT THE COURTY Lemon Chicken is not only a Chinese takeaway favourite, it's also a great local five piece band who play songs that you forgot you loved. They like to pick and choose from the fine selection of great tunes we all grew up on. To make a good Lemon Chicken, start with a little Clash, then roll in some REM and Foo Fighters, once that starts to boil add in Thin Lizzy and Bowie, then top it off with some Rage Against the Machine. Best served loud with some Paul Kelly and World Party on the side. Pulling back the covers on Friday at the Courthouse in Mulllumbimby from 8pm. $5 entry.

Kate McDowell, Mark Swivel and Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal at the NORPA Courtyard Bar on Thursday, talking about the state of the arts sector.

STATE OF THE SECTOR PICNIC AT NORPA The State of the Sector is usually a formal address but given the arts sector has been ‘in a state’ for the past year, NORPA and Theatre Network NSW are putting on a more informal picnic in order to gather, chat and reconnect. Writer/director Kate McDowell, writer/comedian Mark Swivel, and choreographer/teacher Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal will each present a short talk responding to the following provocation: There is no ‘new normal'; you are the NSW Minister for the Arts, what is your vision for the Arts, and the role it plays in the wider community in a post pandemic, climate impact world? This is a FREE EVENT presented by NORPA and Theatre Network NSW, Featuring Kate McDowell, Mark Swivel and Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal. Thursday, 5–7pm, NORPA Courtyard Bar. BYO picnic blanket and nibbles, NORPA bar will be operating from 5pm. | www.norpa.org.au

Aussie rock royalty Sarah McLeod has just released her touching new single, Chachi’s Theme, an ode to her recentlypassed, beloved and iconic pooch who regularly shared stages with her over the last 15 years. Sarah McLeod Chachi’s Theme is a stunningly raw, emotionally charged piano ballad written to honour McLeod’s late rockdog, Chachi, who passed away last month. It’s something a little different from McLeod who first found fame in the late 1990s with three times ARIA Award winning rock band The Superjesus. She plays the Ballina RSL, on 5 March. LANDSCAPE OF THE SOUL Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul focuses on Arthur Boyd's diverse notions of landscape and traces one of the most celebrated careers in the history of Australian art through this lens. Presenting a number of never-before-seen works created by Boyd as a teenager, the exhibition at Tweed Gallery offers the first in depth look at the artist's powerful early grasp of the landscape as a subject. Bookended by Boyd's youthful paintings of the Mornington Peninsula in the 1930s and the final phase of his career, depicting the Shoalhaven area in southern New South Wales in the mid-1970s, Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul considers not only the topographic landscape, but also the landscape Boyd carried within himself. Curated by Barry Pearce the exhibition is drawn principally from Bundanon Trust's own collection of the artist's work. On display at Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre until 28 February. As part of the exhibition, acclaimed painter Luke Sciberras will host two, sold out, one-day en plein air painting workshops along the Tweed River in the beautiful town of Tumbulgum on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February, where participants will explore painterly approaches to the landscape.

THE TALKS OF THE TOWN Want to feel inspired? Come and hear the ideas and stories of people from across the sector when they present their final seven minute talk after completing the second stage of Authentic You with Mandy Nolan and George Catsi over the weekend. Prepare to be moved, amazed, to be provoked and inspired. Hosted by Mandy Nolan at the Byron Theatre on Sunday 7 Feb at 1pm for just $15. Tix on byroncentre.com.au
