SEVEN AND ARTS

After last month’s intense triple eclipses, pressure lessens, a little, as Mercury goes direct this weekend and communication glitches ease‌ ARIES: Mars in your sign can be irritable and blunt – this Cancerian week is emo and sensitive. Meaning dragon-tongued and thinskinned isn’t a comfortable combination for any of us, so tread gently, and if something offends, use it as an opportunity to love yourself more, especially during combustible weekend Aries moon. TAURUS: With Mars and Mercury at odds this week, feelings are likely to run high. If clashes erupt, resolution may not be possible in the heat of the moment, so postpone discussions till tempers and temperatures cool down. If an unexpected occurrence throws you, don’t hesitate to ask for help. GEMINI: We’re in a time when tensions can flare between even the gentlest of humans. That said, this is a great week for Geminis to use their mercurial superpowers of visualisation and communication to say, do, or manifest something that could make a difference in someone’s life. Even one person’s‌ CANCER: Mercury exiting retrograde in your sign this weekend is good news, right? Then again, its edgy alignment with Mars says: not if you get all feisty and fighty and start burning bridges. Hold your fire, and note instead, some of this week’s fabulous free-flowing ideas, before they get lost.
â–ś CONTINUED PAGE 26
LIBRA: This week’s Cancerian vibes could have you thinking about using your talents to help others, so look for ways you can build more service and giving into daily routines. Retrogrades remind us of skills we haven’t used for a while and Mercury, messenger between inner and outer worlds, is currently reviving this forgotten knowledge. SCORPIO: If this week’s mixed signals and crossed wires find you questioning everything, including someone’s loyalty, tread warily and carefully. Don’t go making accusations unless you have facts. And even if you do have them, it’s possible that things still might not be the way they seem. Keep your heart open. SAGITTARIUS: Saying too much could get you in hot water this week, so think twice before sharing unsolicited opinions, unrequested advice or TMI in general. The good news? Some really radical and highly inspiring ideas are downloading, but it’s advisable to keep them in the private file till the time’s right for sharing. CAPRICORN: Not a good idea to push your agenda right now, no matter how enthusiastic and pumped you are about it, or how urgent it might feel. This week people are likely to be more receptive if you speak from the heart, and more impressed by appeals to their feelings than by facts and figures.
LEO: Best take your chill-pills again this week, because a combative attitude could detonate major conflagrations. Problems will be more easily resolved if you don’t bring past issues to the present situation. Or buy into dramas. Or arc up over imagined discourtesies. Try not to take things personally, your majesties.
AQUARIUS: This could be a quarrelsome, argumentative kind of week, so keep that contrarian Aquarian streak in check. Channel antsy energy into caring activities instead: a kindness to someone who needs it, fresh flowers for your home, a meal with a friend, or diving into your favorite creative endeavor.
VIRGO: While some peoples’ passionate attitudes and forthright opinions mightn’t gel at all with yours, respect their right to them. Connect instead this week with your like-minded tribe to see what can be accomplished. Or, if you need new input, seek out creatives in other social sectors for a fresh perspective.
PISCES: This week’s relationship ebb and flow will ride some king tides, easing somewhat when Mercury wraps up its retrograde on the weekend. The astral weather forecast is still majorly emo, with conflicts standing a better chance of resolution if you reschedule discussions for the end of the month.
REUBEN KAYE IS OUT TO PLAY It is time to shake off the post-isolation blues – with the Picture House bringing in the big guns to do just that. Yes, multi-award winning Australian Cabaret artist, and selfproclaimed part-time hood ornament, Reuben Kaye, is back for two shows. Choose from a variety of ticketing options, starting at $15. Described as ‘the evil love child of Liza Minnelli and Jim Carrey’, Kaye’s delivery is flawless, and blends lavish storytelling with gilded song, incorporating an impressive repertoire that ranges from Kurt Weill to Kate Bush. All while punctuating his monologue with rich cultural critique that has his worldwide audiences and critics begging for more. With current COVID-19 restrictions in place, the team at the Picture House knew they needed to get creative, ensuring that no one would miss out on the full Reuben Kaye experience. In addition to a very limited number of tickets indoors, audiences can Come Out and Play in the idyllic Picture House garden, watching the show inside live on the big screen outside, as the fire is stoked and Reuben’s sequins give the evening stars a run for their money. But don’t think you’ll be safe from his moments of improvisation just because there is a wall between you‌ audience participation is a ‘ready or not’ proposition. Covering all corners, for those of you who have become a little too comfortable on the couch, in a first for the Picture House, local audiences will be joined by fans from all over Australia, and the world, as the Reuben Kaye Comes Out to Play show is streamed right into the comfort of your lounge room for $15. Two shows only. Duration 75 minutes: Saturday at 7pm, and Sunday at 5pm. For all bookings, streaming information and tickets go to brunswickpicturehouse.com

THE WAY WE WERE‌ WITH AUSTEN TAYSHUS The world is nervously finding its way back to the pre-COVID way we were. Although perhaps we won’t ever be completely the way we were. We now stand on squares, we avoid contact with people, we wash our hands. So how are we supposed to negotiate this new world disorder? How do we connect? How do we move forward? Comedians are very much at the frontline of the social dialogue about how we feel. Standup comedian and social provocateur, Austen Tayshus, always has a unique perspective on topical issues, and his post-COVID comedy is certainly something worth hearing! Fortunately for comedy lovers, Austen is back for two nights with the mama of mirth, Mandy Nolan as MC, and carpet cleaner by day, comedian by night, John Peacock as support. Social distancing has never been a problem at Tayshus’ gigs – no one ever wants to sit up the front! He’s a force of nature – his comedic downloads are legendary – weaving politics and topical themes throughout his satirical discourse that drills down on Australian identity, race and religion. Friday 17 and Saturday 18 July at 8pm at the Byron Services Club. Tix $35 on mandynolan.com.au. Shows have limited tickets owing to Public Health Order regulations.
