Waangenga Blanco performing at The Go Wild For Our Wildlife community fundraiser at Marvell Hall in Byron. The Northern Rivers Community Foundation matched all funds raised on the night. Over $30,000 has been raised and will go to the Wildlife Conservation Fund which supports wildlife projects now and in the future. Photo Jeff Dawson No, it’s not a joke tree, the Cassia fistula (host to the Lemon Migrant butterfly mentioned in last week’s paper and on Echonetdaily: www.echo.net.au/ lemon-migrant-butterflymigration-underway/) is its real name. Staff at Bunnings who received a number of requests for it after our article started to doubt, especially as it’s also known as the Golden Shower Tree, or even more scatalogically as the ‘pudding-pipe’ tree or the ‘purging cassia’. It’s escaped cultivation and become an environmental weed in the NT and QLD, where Bunnings buy their stock, so unfortunately, you can’t buy it there. Q Q Q Q

You wouldn’t think that a town in Sweden would skip winter – but for the first time in history one has. If the temperature doesn’t dip below freezing for seven consecutive days, then winter isn’t declared. For the first time, since keeping records from 1858, for the small Swedish town of Växjö, winter just

never began according to www.thelocal.se. Q Q Q Q

The world naked bike ride will be taking place this weekend. If getting nude on a bike in Nimbin is your thing then your date is Saturday, 7 March, at 10am. This will be followed by Byron bikers getting into their birthday suits on Sunday, 8 March at Gilmore Crescent, Sandhills Reserve, from 1pm. The ride across town will commence at 3pm sharp. Q Q Q Q

Menstruation is not a topic that men typically talk about. But some are realising that it’s actually quite important. Check out the Period Savvy Men/Dads workshop being run at the Mullumbimby Commons on 14 March. Run by local expert Karin Lucia Gisler, the workshops explain what’s happening on a physical and emotional level, and how men can support their daughters, female partners and others through better understanding.
