Here in this Northern Rivers Women in Business feature we are using International Women’s Day to focus on some of the amazingly talented women who conduct their business in this diverse region. As women, indeed as humans, we all go about our lives doing our jobs, ƏOOLQJ RXU UROHV ƏQGLQJ RXU SXUSRVH However, when we take a step back and look beyond our Northern Rivers bubble we see a world where, in some countries, women are denied access to an education or are considered the property of their husbands. International Women’s Day is a chance to check in. How are women doing around the world? Equal pay? Safety? Health? Perhaps having a day that focuses on women gives us an opportunity to assess the situation both locally and globally and ask; Are we VDWLVƏHG ZLWK WKH VWDWXV TXR DQG LI QRW what is each of us going to do about it?
What do you do? As the Clinic Cosmetic Injector, I am responsible for the medical rejuvenation WUHDWPHQWV VXFK DV DQWL ZULQNOH DQG GHUPDO ƏOOHUV I use these modalities to address the classic progression of ageing through rejuvenation of VWUXFWXUH DQG YROXPH ORVV DQG VRIWHQLQJ ƏQH OLQHV and wrinkles. I am also trained in Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy and submental fat dissolving injections. I aim to give patients back a piece of their youth, allowing them to age with grace - less is more in my clinic. What do you love about what you do? My philosophy is to enhance my patients’ best IHDWXUHV UDWKHU WKDQ WU\LQJ WR Ə[ ZKDW WKH\ GRQ W like. Every client I have is just as important as the next, everyone who walks into our beautiful little clinic will walk out feeling beautiful. How long have you been doing it? I have practiced in the aesthetic medical sphere for the past three years.
Jess Riddell is a mobile lawyer servicing the Northern Rivers and beyond, where she brings ‘law to your door’! Jess commenced studying for her Law and Business Degree at SCU in Lismore in 2003 and has also since earned a degree in Nursing. Today, she is practising law through her business, JH Mobile Lawyers and also practising as a Registered Nurse. ‘I love to help people; people who are buying or selling property (conveyancing), organising their Estate documents (wills, power of attorney and enduring guardianship appointments), acting as an Executor of an Estate, and people needing family law advice.’ Her passion is advocating for the elderly. +DYLQJ D EXV\ WZR FDUHHU OLIH DQG QRZ H[SHFWLQJ KHU ĆŹUVW baby, Jess escapes into nature when she needs time out. ‘I love the ocean, walking in rainforests and swimming in water holes.’ To young women considering a career in law, Jess says, ‘Be true to yourself. If you feel like you are being made to work in an area of law that you don’t want to; then leave. If you are representing people that your gut is telling you not to; then walk away. Peace of mind is far more important than work.’

What do you have planned for the future? I have big plans for my eclectic little clinic, however, you will have to wait and see what I have planned. What do you use for inspiration when challenges arise? 'R QRW VDFULĆŹFH \RXU EHOLHIV IRU D GROODU :RUN KDUG and be true to yourself, because the money will follow. What advice would you give to young women starting in your career/area of business? Take advantage of every opportunity to learn from RWKHU LQGLYLGXDOV LQ \RXU ĆŹHOG ZH DUH VWURQJHU together as a community. While many are your competition, they are also your peers and mentors.
