Anyone who has not been sleeping under a rock for the last 20 years would know that development pressures in Byron Shire are intense. On page 15 this week Cr Cate Coorey outlines her objections to a draft residential strategy based upon mysterious growth figures, while on page 14 June Grant expresses her concerns about the ad hoc development of Mullumbimby. Uncontrolled dogs and messy campers are two pet peeves which we must return to at regular intervals because nothing seems to improve with these issues. Another chap was savaged by a dog at South Golden Beach last week with no responsibility taken by the owner, and van campers again left a mess at Belongil. What’s the plan? Come to a beautiful area and destroy it? Anyone serious about getting their dog trained might care to check out the voluntary group BARCO at http:// bit.ly/FbBarco. nation’s psyche, especially when engaged with the current government’s cold war on reality.
Magistrate Brian Van Zuylen’s ruling should put the wind up any local government candidate wanting to avoid financial scrutiny. David Mahaffy, official agent for Narrabri Shire Council election candidate Des Barton, was recently convicted for failure to lodge a declaration of disclosures of donations and electoral expenditure, and fined $1,600 and ordered to pay the prosecutor’s costs of $2,000. Keep it in mind for the next election, Byron hopefuls! Q Q Q Q
‘Julian Assange is not exactly a bastion of truth and integrity.’ – CIA spokesman Jonathan Liu. Pot, kettle, anyone? The unfortunate Mr Liu may be right in that Mr Assange’s character is not spotless, but so far he hasn’t been instrumental in overthrowing several sovereign nations or engaged in torture at black sites
