TH E IN FOCUS
artis t Georgie Maddox Georgie Maddox has a Bachelor of Arts from Flinders University as well as several postgraduate degrees. She has exhibited around the world including Australia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Corisca, Monaco, New York, Greece, Holland, Kuala Lumpur and Japan. Georgie’s latest paintings encapsulate the brutality, beauty, strength and vulnerability of the nurturing female form, often depicting the mother figure and newborn child within the womb, providing a visual and emotive connection to the complete evolution of life. ‘It is often said that the mother and child are born together. My artworks seek to convey this joint conceptual birth.’ Locally Georgie is working on ‘Secret Female Signatures’ and is calling for women of all ages and walks of life to post in their anonymous messages, photographs, poems or sketches to empower other women. ‘I want to give women a voice through the powerful medium of visual art.’ Submissions posted to GM Art for inclusion in the exhibition will be used as inspiration for larger works created by the artist. Blank postcards can be collected from Still @ the Centre, Barebones Artspace, Art Piece Gallery, Lennox Art Collective and NRCG Ballina, and posted to GM Art, PO Box 658, Bangalow, NSW 2479.
