The revamped Brunswick Picture House in Fingal Street, Brunswick Heads, is geared up to spring into action with a full Easter weekend program. The program includes the Really Good Good Friday Circus Bonanza, described as ‘an extravaganza of performances from an array of local and international performers, this all-ages gala of epic proportions will tickle the funnybones of the young and young at heart’. Saturday sees The Inaugural Picture House Cheeky Cabaret: ‘In the tradition of La Soirée and Club Swizzle, this cabaret variety night is guaranteed to tantalise and titillate. Bring Grandma, but leave the little ones at home.’ And on Saturday and Sunday there is Kaput: ‘Direct from a sell-out North American tour, self-proclaimed “elegant buffoon” Tom Flanagan presents his award-winning show’, described as ‘physical comedy at its best’. The weekend concludes with the cinema classic The Wizard of Oz. See more about the program at brunswickpicturehouse.com.

Mullum Birth Centre still open As plans progress for the opening of the new Byron Central Hospital (BCH), the existing Mullumbimby Birth Centre at Mullumbimby District Hospital continues to provide services to expectant mums, with contingency plans in place right up to, and including, ‘move day’. The executive director of the Tweed Byron Health Service Group, Bernadette Loughnane, said that while the actual ‘move day’ to the new BCH had yet to be determined, staff of the Mullumbimby Birth Centre had developed a comprehensive plan to ensure an uninterrupted delivery of service for expecting mums. ‘The philosophy of the Mullumbimby Birth Centre is to view pregnancy and birth as normal healthy events in a woman’s life, unless complications arise, and this remains unchanged,’ Ms Loughnane said. ‘Mullumbimby Birth Centre will continue to see women throughout their

pregnancy and birth during the transition period, and this will remain uninterrupted as we move across to the new BCH. The Home Birth service will also continue during the transition period, so essentially it is business as normal.’ The birth centre offers several models of maternity care including Midwives Program, where women see a midwife for the whole of their pregnancy, birth, and postnatal period; Shared Care, where

women share their antenatal care between an MCBS doctor and primary midwife: Doctors Program, where women see a GP obstetrician throughout their pregnancy and birth; and Home Birth, where women choose to give birth at home, attended by the team midwife. These models of care will continue at the new BCH. For further information or to discuss your maternity needs, contact the Mullumbimby Birth Centre on 6639 8226.
