Good news, especially for those who missed it the first time: owing to popular demand the Brunswick Valley Historical Society is screening Sharon Shostak’s film Mullumbimby’s Madness – The Legacy of the Hippies at the Ex-Services Club Mullumbimby on Saturday March 5. Doors open at 6.30pm, screening at 7.30pm, and Broadfoot is playing live prior to the screening. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 each – no concession, no bookings. The night is a fundraiser for the next collaboration between the society and Sharon, a documentary on the children of the hippies. Q Q Q Q

Fossil Free Australia (FFA), in its Pollution Free Politics campaign, gofossilfree.org.au/ pfp-home (which also has a nifty little explainer video, has noted that ‘for every dollar donated to our politicians since the last election, the big polluters will receive $2,000+ in return this year’ – that’s $7.7 billion in subsidies all up. The big parties are all in thrall to these donations. See our Comment on page 8. Q Q Q Q

In relation to the subject of climate change, the Bureau of Linguistic Reality offers some handy definitions of new words. We particularly liked the word for the Anthropocene, Blissonance: ‘When an otherwise blissful experience in nature is wedded to or disrupted by the recognition that one is having an adverse impact on that place they are enjoying by being there; or the understanding of how the place will be negatively affected in the near future by urbanisation, climate change or other disrupting

Lennox Head artist Angus McDonald works on his painting, Rise, modelled by his partner Beata. Angus will be having his first local exhibition in ten years at the Tweed Regional Gallery. BallaratToRome has raised more than $200,000 in seven days, well over the desired

total of $55,000. Any excess funds will go towards a healing centre for survivors.

We hear that the traffic controller on the eastern side of the new hospital works, Mark, also known as ‘Mr Happy Traffic’, is finishing up at the site. He wishes to thank motorists for their cooperation and patience. It mustn’t be an easy job at the best of times. Q Q Q Q

Cardinal George Pell may be a favourite of Tony Abbott but he hasn’t endeared himself to everyone. Musician Tim Minchin’s blistering satire, Come Home (Cardinal Pell), can be seen at http://bit. ly/pellhell. The revenue from Minchin’s song is being donated to the fund to send survivors of clergy abuse to see the cardinal in Rome. So far www.gofundme.com/Send-
