The Mullumbimby Brunswick Valley Football Club ran a series of soccer clinics over the school holidays with coaches from Brisbane and Germany. On the first week of the break, the club hosted the German Soccer School, who brought out a team of coaches along with all of their equipment to run some high-intensity skills training camps for kids. The sessions, which ran for seven hours each day at the Pine Avenue fields, were the first-ever camps held in Australia by the German Soccer School, who have been running for 12 years in Dusseldorf. The week’s camp was fully subscribed, by kids who were

eager to learn what the coaches had to bring from across the oceans. But there was still more for the local kids when last Thursday and Friday, the Brisbane Roar soccer club are ran their highly acclaimed Roar Active Holiday Clinics also at Pine Ave. Brisbane Roar ran three classes over the clinic – a two-day all-inclusive program for 6–11-year-olds, a short class for ‘Roar Cub’, 3–5-year-olds, and a special all-girls session. This program is the start of a commitment to an ongoing relationship between MBVFC and the Brisbane Roar, which both clubs hope will lead to mutually beneficial outcomes for both the community and players.

Dragons invite you to paddle Sport dominates During the month of October local Dragons Abreast Australia groups will be hosting events in their community to raise awareness of the benefits of dragon boat racing for breast cancer survivors. Dragons Abreast Australia is a national not-for-profit charity comprising breast cancer survivors (and some very special supporters) of various ages from a great variety of backgrounds, athletic abilities and interests. Dragons Abreast members provide a ‘face’ for the breast cancer statistics while spread-

ing the message of breast cancer awareness through participation in the wonderful and strenuous sport of dragon boat racing. Dragons Abreast commenced in Australia in 1998, following in the footsteps of a study by Dr Don McKenzie and a group of breast cancer survivors in Vancouver, Canada. Read more about the beginnings of Dragons Abreast Australia here: www. dragonsabreast.com.au. Events will be varied across the country from a ‘come and try’ paddle fol-

lowed by morning tea or a barbecue. The local Dragons Abreast group, Rainbow Dragons Abreast, invites breast cancer survivors and their supporters regardless of age, fitness, athletic ability or cultural background to come and have fun paddling and experience the benefits associated with dragon boating. Meet at Lake Ainsworth (southern end opposite Surf Club), Lennox Head, this Sunday 18 October at 7.40am for 8am start followed by morning tea.

Australian Multicultural Marketing Awards nominees the Australia Post One Netball program.

The Australian Rugby League Commission, Football Federation Australia and Netball Australia have all been announced as finalists at this year’s Australian Multicultural Marketing Awards (AMMA). Chief executive officer of Multicultural NSW Hakan Harman says the level of engagement from sporting codes is testament to a sporting culture that encourages and embraces cultural diversity. ‘The high number of entries from sporting organisations this year demonstrates how engaged Australian sporting organisations are in promoting multiculturalism,’ he said. ‘It’s really encouraging to see an industry that nurtures and encourages positive role models for all Australians grow its ethnic programs year on year.’ Among other finalists announced today are St George

Bank, NRMA Motoring & Services, Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute. Now in its 26th year, the AMMAs recognise top marketing campaigns from marketers, advertisers and agencies that speak to all Australians.
