The Utopian Fire Dancers are returning for New Years Eve in Byron Bay, courtesy of Rose Wanchap of Red Rose Realty. ‘I have agreed to pay for them since I believe it will be a very special gift for me to give to the community as we send out the old year and look towards a new year,’ said Rose. ‘They are a husband and wife team with over 22 years combined experience in delivering unique and professional fire dancing performance. ‘There has been a lot of anger and hurt that has passed under the bridge between the people of our community throughout this election year. I feel that the New Year is a good time for wounds to be healed and there is no better way than by dancing in the light of the “fire.’ The fire dancers can be found online at www.utopianfire.com. Byron Bay will be alcohol
free for 24 hours for the NYE event. There will also be market stalls commencing in the afternoon and the popular McGregor Amusements and then the Samba Blisstas performing at 8pm. Any stallholders not yet registered for the night can make an application via Council’s website www.byron.nsw.gov. au. Community groups who would like to participate are invited to join in free of charge to showcase their work and activities, and Mayor Jan Barham is encouraging approved buskers to join in on the night and register with Council. To ensure the safe management on the night there are street closures to the beach that will commence at 6am on Wednesday December 31. The closures will mean that no parking is available at the beachfront that day while preparations are organised.
Mullum cyclist critical A Mullumbimby cyclist is in critical condition in Gold Coast Hospital after a collision with a car last week. The car and bicycle collided on Kings Creek Bridge on the Mullumbimby Road. The bridge is a ‘bottleneck’
for cyclists and motorists as there is no bikeway across it. Byron Shire Council has no immediate plans to upgrade the bridge despite widening nearby sections of the road. Police are investigating the accident.
