Belongil Bistro As qualified chefs learning the ropes we were brainwashed in ethics about cooking, mainly the harmony of ingredients. If a bird eats corn, for instance, you must allow for that on the plate, looking around where the animal was caught to see what it was eating, then using those things to garnish the dish. When we arrived here late last year we applied those same ethics to this space. We looked at what its patrons would want from it and how it would complement the area. wood, solar energy from panels on our roof, produce grown locally, free from harmful chemicals or inhumane treatment, and compostable waste to satisfy your sustainable mindset. We know you wanted stylish and comfortable so we made it that way but considered the surrounds of Belongil at the same time. We know you love breakfast next to the beach and like to have it late sometimes, so we created brunch to go until four, with a handful of fast lunchy dishes thrown in at midday. The menu content followed the same rules, created using food you love and recognise at reasonable prices. The text is minimal, allowing you to make quick choices rather than losing the moment while reading the damn thing when you should be relaxing with friends. The dinner menu is small but changes frequently, saving regulars from boredom, and the bar has simple well-priced tapas. The beers feature our delightful Australian boutique varieties, the cocktails luxurious and the wines carefully selected to fall within a certain price point. Instead of looking at the prices first before you make up your mind, simply drink whatever you want, they are all within a few dollars of each other and not far from bottleshop pricing. The concept here isn’t about cars or planes, Italy or France, skewers or steaming baskets, it’s about you, and this place. A room designed for your conscience, comfort and enjoyment, serviced by industry professionals who will bring you nice food and drinks in a respectable fashion. But all this relies on you. You to come here and keep it alive, to come and support a venue flying a flag for our region in beautiful Belongil. 33–35 Childe St, Belongil. 6680 9007.
