CFOA at a Glance CFOA is the professional voice of the UK Fire and Rescue Service. We are primarily a membership association that provides professional advice and guidance

There were 305 past members at 31 March 2013. The Association also has 1 honorary member.

Membership of the Association Individual Members Ordinary membership of the Association is open to principal fire officers / chief executives and area managers or equivalent in Local Authority Fire and Rescue Services (FRSs) and Principal Fire Officers and Area Managers who have comparable responsibilities elsewhere in the public services of the United Kingdom. At 31 March 2013, there were 388 ordinary members of the Association.

Professional Partners Every UK FRS is a CFOA Professional Partner, meaning their staff get access to a number of benefits. CFOA Professional Partner staff: • Lead, engage and influence the profession • Engage in, and learn from, professional peer networks • Stay informed about key compliance and regulation issues • Receive regular updates on strategic, technical, financial and policy developments

CFOA Members contribute to the national agenda and engage in personal development opportunities. By its very nature our work involves exposure to political influences which is invaluable experience for our future leaders. With a strong membership we are better positioned to influence and provide leadership.

• Widen local horizons with national and international perspective

When ordinary members retire or resign from the fire service they are eligible to become past members.

Every Professional Partner is eligible to receive: • A seat on the FRS Council

• Have an opportunity for personal development throughout their careers • Participate in a sector knowledge network

Every UK FRS has a number of staff with access to communities who use it as a vital tool to discuss upcoming issues and share learning. • Fire Futures Forums reports and outcomes • Expert advice and information to support their FRS • Warnings of risk critical events within other services • A central resource that develops communications in response to local incidents with national ramifications • The ability to publish enforcement data in a legally compliant way and identify national trends • Notification of new timber frame construction sites within their local area • Introductions to organisations outside the fire sector as potential partners Member Engagement CFOA Members are encouraged to engage in regional and national activity to develop policy and in doing so, develop their own professional skills. Members are given opportunities to become involved in national projects, tasks and working groups across numerous subject areas, all of which seek to
