bears an uncanny resemblance to the renowned Datai Hotel at Langkawi designed by Bedmar’s good friend Kerry Hill. The Lakeshore House is a poetic solution arising out of a response to the site, the climate and a dialogue between global and local culture. The house has the intangible quality that Bedmar increasingly imparts – a spirit that is gentle and tranquil but never soporific. While most of Ernesto Bedmar’s work is located in Singapore, he has a body of work that extends throughout Southeast Asia. He has also received commissions in New Delhi, Lhasa (Tibet), London and New York. An exquisite monograph 2 of his work, Bedmar and Shi: Romancing the Tropics, was published in 2008, acknowledging Bedmar’s recognition on the international stage. 1
