There comes a time when all small businesses must pay for their publicity. They've exhausted their use of the press release. They've used up all of their feature story ideas. They've depleted their finances for direct-mail packages. Now they're left with one final marketing tool to generate hot leads and push their profits to the next level. It's advertising. When you reach that point, it's not the time to think fancy. It's time to think response. Instead of the typical ads that you see in most publications--newspapers and magazines--think advertorial, the kind of ad that actually looks like a real news story or other editorial matter.

Nearly every homeowner wants to landscape for curb appeal. Maximizing your yard’s attributes and minimizing its problems to create a beautiful streetside view doesn’t have to be difficult, daunting, or expensive. No matter your style or plant preferences, here are eight ideas to transform your front yard into a beautiful, attractive space. Consider the house. Lots of people look at the size of the lawn or the shape and slope of the front yard, but many people forget a critical consideration in landscaping for curb appeal. “Rule No. 1, and the one that I see

Work with masses and shapes to create a landscape for curb appeal. Even if you love gardening and all its associated tasks, if you one day plan to sell your house, an elaborate garden can be considered a negative by a potential buyer. “Things that require a lot of maintenance may appeal to you, but for curb appeal, people don’t want to imagine themselves spending hours deadheading,” Land says. Keep it clean: petunias that won’t litter petals everywhere, for example, and shrubs that don’t require a lot of tender loving care. “In beautiful landscapes you see in magazines, there isn’t a stray leaf or twig, but when you come home, things are different,” Land says. Most Common Hardwood Myths 1. Wood floors should not be used in a kitchen. Kitchens are one of the most popular rooms in the house for hardwood floors. Built to withstand heavy traffic and give long lasting beauty with minimal maintenance, hardwood floors are a perfect choice.

Cupping is due to excess moisture or over drying and is considered jobsite related. Improper water maintenance, a plumbing leak, or moisture from the crawl space, basement, concrete slab or high/low-relative humidity can be the reasons.

2. Damp mopping is the best way to clean a wood floor. To the contrary, the best way to clean a floor is with a dry microfiber dust mop. Dust mops are great for everyday cleaning. A damp mop can be used for occasional cleaning, but too much regular use of water can dull a floor finish. When damp mopping water should not drip off the mop head, using too much water hence “wet mopping” can cause damage and discolor wood floors.

6. If my wood floor changes colors or fades, it is because the finish or wood is defective. No. Actually all wood floors can experience color shade change overtime. American cherry and many exotic species like Brazilian Cherry, Tiger wood, are photosensitive and will gain a richer, darker patina. Area rugs and large furniture that cover the floor should be moved periodically to allow exposure to UV light and air on the area. Eventually, the entire floor will reach the same even shading. There are no known values established for this natural condition, therefore, Manufactures do not warrant against these natural characteristics beyond its control.

3. Hardwood floors should not scratch or dent. Although Hardwood floors of all species are durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of daily life, top finishes and wood can still scratch or dent given enough applied pressure or resistance. Higher gloss will show more imperfections. Manufactures do not warrant against scratching and denting

7. I should be able to use every piece of wood I purchase. Realistically, wood is a product of nature not perfect. The industry allows a tolerance not to exceed 5% for defective boards, natural or manufacturer related, based on the total purchase. Some 8-10% for the exotics. If board width size seems to vary during installation, place boards of the same width size together in the same row.

4. High heel shoes will not damage a wood floor. High heels or spiked heels are damaging to hardwood flooring. They strike the floor with more force per inch than an elephant’s foot. How to Tell If My Roof Has Storm Damage High winds, hail, rain, snow and other weather conditions can cause roof damage. The damage can be as small as a few torn shingles, or as large as broken structural supports that jeopardize the safety of your home. Perform a damage assessment as soon after a storm as practical. Many types of damage allow the elements into your home and create unsafe or uncomfortable conditions. Repairs can become more costly over time.
