The scholarship helps give me the opportunity to do what I want, and I have nothing but gratitude. • Teachers who inspired me are Ms. McDermott and Mr. Wurtz. WIL VICIK STEM ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
• After EC I’m planning to complete my bachelor’s in animal science, and hopefully pursue a dual DVM/PhD in equine genomics. I would like to work as an equine vet in performance medicine or work in research with a focus on genetic diseases found both in horses and people. Alongside a professional career, I hope to continue my athletic pursuits. • This scholarship gave me the opportunity to take rigorous classes and receive a top tier education at a fantastic high school. • Multiple teachers have been instrumental to my high school experience, but Mr. MacIntyre, Ms. Lindblad and Mrs. Shen made a huge impact on me. All three teachers encouraged my time away from school while supporting me in the classroom as well. Mr. Mac was there offering advice and help for all of my freshman year. My junior year, he took the time to talk me through the stress of college applications and essays. Ms. Lindblad humored my interest in veterinary medicine and stayed after class to go over my horse’s bloodwork and discuss possible treatments for muscle disease. Mrs. Shen has been my teacher since seventh grade and made Chinese one of my favorite classes. • My favorite class was AP Biology and my favorite activities are riding horses, working as a vet tech, drawing and watching movies. • The best part of attending EC was the support I was given for my athletic goals. No other high school would have been as accepting and open about a student leaving to ride horses. The openness I received has given me national titles, a profi table career and invaluable experiences.

However, Mr. Morrisroe, Ms. Deardorff and Dr. Wootton have inspired me the most. • My favorite class at EC was AP English Language and Composition, and this year it is AP American Government. • I like to hang out with my friends, sing and travel. • EC highlights: going on the service trip to New Orleans (which inspired me to apply to Tulane), Destiny and of course, amazing mentoring with Mr. Morrisroe.

PATRICK J. DEVINY SCHOLARSHIP
• After EC I plan to attend college. I’m currently looking at the University of Colorado-Boulder or the University of Washington. Anywhere that’s nearby ski slopes for snowboarding and an aerospace engineering program, you’d best believe that I’m interested. • This scholarship reminded me of how being selfl ess and hardworking can positively impact those around you. Patrick Deviny continued his engineering studies while fi ghting cancer, which is truly inspiring. • All my teachers have inspired me in some way. One example is Mrs. Maloney, my AP Computer Science A teacher. Not only did she do a great job of teaching the course, she went out of her way to present extra opportunities for students to pursue. • Physics is probably my favorite class so far. I remember taking physics during my freshman year and always being “that kid” that asked way too many questions. • Some of my favorite activities are Boy Scouts and snowboarding. I’ve been a Boy Scout since the fi rst grade. • EC has been an amazing school for me. I’ve enjoyed the extracurricular activities and clubs as well as the numerous community service opportunities.

It is also a testament to the people who have helped me throughout my years of education. • I have been most inspired by Mrs. Dvorak who I had as my mentor teacher and my history teacher this year as well as freshman year. It never ceases to expand my view of the world and how we got to where we are today. • My favorite activity would be a card game that I came up with. It has been a joy and a fulfilling challenge to keep up with my ever-expanding database of all of the games that have been played and plays into my love of data and statistics. I also enjoy the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. • EC highlights: Various classroom antics which never fail to keep class interesting, and the community that we have at EC.
