EAST COBB SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY All Cobb residents age 55+ are invited to participate in activities at various senior centers throughout Cobb. The following is a listing of activities scheduled at the East Cobb Senior Center located at 3332 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta 30066. Documentary: The Salt of the Earth January 7 | 1-4pm Free/Registration required A 2014 French-Brazilian biographical documentary. The last 40 years, photographer Sebastião Salgado has been travelling through the continents, in the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. He has witnessed some of the major events of recent history; international conflicts, starvation and exodus. He is now embarking on the discovery of pristine territories, of wild fauna and flora, and of grandiose landscapes as part of a huge photographic project, which is a tribute to the planet's beauty. Marcie’s Gabfest & Story Telling January 7- February 11 (Thursdays) | 10-11:30am Free/Registration required Come and listen to various stories, legends, folklore and more. Bring a sack lunch and share stories. Marcie Brunton will teach participants how to be a great storyteller. Adapted Tango Dancing January 8 | 10am-11:30am Free/Registration required Improve balance and mobility. A free dance class to learn more about Adapted Tango Dance. "Adapted Tango" is a series of Argentine Tango dance lessons designed to improve mobility in older adults, especially those with Parkinson's disease. All ability and mobility levels are welcome, including those who use walkers. Wear comfortable, supportive shoes. No partner necessary. Presented by Madeleine Hackney Ph.D./ Assistant Professor Medicine/Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics Emory School of Medicine. What You Need to Know About Your Taxes January 12 | 10-11:30am Free/Registration required Local Cobb County AARP volunteers will present a seminar on what you need to know about your taxes for 2015. Learn what is new and why you should file even if you do not legally have to. Do you know how the Affordable Care Act will affect your taxes? Do you know how to obtain free tax filings for both Federal and State. Learn what you can do to prepare to have your taxes done to ensure an accurate and complete return.
