EARTHQUAKE KITS - EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS

EARTHQUAKE KITS - EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS There has been an unprecedented run on earthquake kits in the US following the disaster in Japan and the increased demand has been widespread as people in seismic zones across the country reassess their state of preparedness. Quake Hold Industrial watching what has been unfolding in Japan and realizing that it could just as easily happen here, and that realization has in turn helped to raise awareness of earthquake preparedness in general and earthquake kits in particular. The knock-on effect is that businesses based in earthquake zones are thinking long and hard about what they need to do to become more prepared and make their work environments safer for their employees. After Hurricane Katrina smashed into New Orleans in 2005, federal and state agencies retooled and developed a new message focusing on the need for all of us to be self-sufficient for at least three days after any emergency such as a major earthquake. The earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan have reinforced that message here at home. Nowadays we know that first responders may not be able to get to us within the first 72 hours depending of course on the severity of the emergency, which is why having earthquake kits for your workforce is so important. If you’re located in an active seismic zone it makes even more sense to have earthquake kits on hand and to store them where they will be readily accessible to your workforce. A good rule of thumb is to keep an earthquake kit where you spend most of your time i.e. home, office and car. Okay, so you understand the home and office concept, but why the car too? The answer is because you never know where you will be when an earthquake strikes and if you’re on the road when it happens you could find yourself stranded for a prolonged period of time and in that case an earthquake kit could

be a life saver. That’s why we have developed a variety of earthquake kits to meet any need. Survival Kits Earthquake kits are designed to get you through at least 72 hours by providing disaster supplies that will help you survive. There are individual survival kits, two-person and four-person kits, as well as 10 and 20 person earthquake kits for businesses. All the basic essentials as recommended by the American Red Cross, plus added extras, are in every one of our kits. The food and water is approved by the US Coast Guard and has a five-year shelf life, there are first aid kits, safety lightsticks, emergency blankets, ponchos, dust masks, nitrile gloves and more.

Inside each kit there is a reminder card that you can mail to us so that six months prior to the expiration date of the food and water we will hit you up with a reminder that they need replacing. Earthquake Preparedness at Work Earthquakes are unpredictable, so being prepared is the most practical course of action to take. If your equipment is unsecured it could be damaged or trashed and if you don’t have earthquake kits on hand for your employees you are effectively hindering your ability to become operational again.
