A Note from the Publisher » Being immersed daily in the world of weddings, it’s natural that I tend to notice new trends from time to time. But, as of late, I’ve stumbled upon what I consider a somewhat surprising one. The planning process seems to be stretching out a little further, granting couples a longer engagement period. With so many options, and with weddings becoming such big business, one might assume that they could turn a wedding around on a dime. And with the level of professional talent running amok around KC, there’s no doubt it can be done. But, I must admit, there is something rather soothing about this inadvertent “holding pattern.”

For one, it allows you to savor a particular period in your courtship. It’s like you date for a while before you enter this relationship purgatory of sorts, planning and waiting to officially be wed. And so often couples are so consumed with getting to the end goal, that they skim past the all the excitement of this part. The hoping, the dreaming of what the future holds, as you map out options with an overabundance of optimism. Then, there are the options. Of course giving yourself more time helps both you and your professionals better plan for your festivities. You have more choice of venues, more photographers are likely to be open, and the list goes on. Now, going through this process myself, right alongside you all, hindsight somehow seems abundantly clear. And looking back, what I wish more couples would realize is that there really is no rush to book every one of your vendors the first month you’re engaged. You don’t want to make rash decisions concerning the one day you can’t just re-do if it doesn’t pan out. So, first enjoy some of the splendor that comes with being a fiancé or fiancée. Then, wait until you find professionals that you can trust enough to execute something beyond your wildest dreams. That’s precisely what I plan to do too! My second piece of advice is to plan your day around what makes you swoon, not necessarily what everyone else is doing. As you flip the pages, we’ve packed them full of “alternative” options with everything, including the option NOT to rock a diamond, because now gemstones are all the rage! You won’t want to miss what’s to come! Happy Reading! EABride.com
