ONGOING GETTING TO KNOW YOU

On Wednesday 16th November, 14th December, 18th January 2023, 10.00am – Noon. At WAKE CUP, 52-54 STATION ROAD, CHINGFORD, LONDON. E4 7BE. ‘Getting To Know You’ (a song in The King & I) is a new group that will meet monthly, starting on Wednesday 16th November, 10.00am – Noon at WAKE CUP, 52-54 Station Road, Chingford. E4 7BE The group aims to encourage and enable a multi generation meet up for anyone who would like the opportunity to meet new people of varying ages in their community. Although there are various clubs aimed at specific ages, I don’t think there is one that aims at a multigenerational get together. For various reasons many people young & old may not see much of their family, that can mean older people don’t have much connectivity with children and in turn children may miss out by not having much contact with the older generation. This Community group aims to bring people of different ages together. Perhaps you are new to the area, working from home and missing one to one contact, an older person looking to meet other people, a parent who’d like to meet up - babies & children welcome (there isn’t a designated play area as such, so bring a few toys). Basically this group is for anyone who wants to get to know more local people of varying ages. It would be appreciated if dogs (except guide dogs) were not in attendance. Thank you for your understanding with regards to this. If you’re interested in the chance to catch up with local people over a coffee and would like to come along please let me know in advance if possible so I can give the venue some idea of attendance. We look forward to hearing from you. Irene & Harley Contact: Irene Bull T: 0208 559 4500 - email irenebull@hotmail.co.uk Or Harley Johnson T: 07957 484697 – HQAJohnson@hotmail.com

Orion Harriers has been Chingford and Highams Park's local running club since 1911. We have 700 members of all abilities, who run from our base in Epping Forest near Chingford Station.

14th January 2023 will see the 100th running of our annual 10 mile cross country run. We have held the run every year since 1911, except where prevented by war or disease. The route has varied over the years, as the forest and traffic have changed, but has always included plenty of mud and hills, including Pole, Hawkswood, Yardley, Woodridden and Wellington Hills. The 100 races have seen many epic battles between local runners and with the course, including our very own World Ironman Champion triathlete Lucy Charles-Barclay (see picture, right). We are a friendly club and welcome everyone. All are welcome to join training. Our juniors (from age 8) and our beginners groups go out on Wednesday nights from our club: Jubilee Retreat, Bury Road, Chingford. If you are interested, check out the website or simply drop in. If you would to take part in this historic race, please see website for more details but we will be taking entries on the day. www.orionharriers.com
