Sustainability concept
ASSIGNMENT The diploma project was a design of a sustainable living area in a city of Brest, Belarus. The site consists of two plots in a new housing project comprised of family houses and multi-family houses, based on modular approach. The aim is to create ecologically, economically and socially sustainable home and neighbourhood. CONCEPT Conceptual space plan is based on parametrically generated and simultaneously optimized Voronoi cells, that serve diagramatic way to divide the inner space of each plot and to distinguish public, semi-public and private space. The appearance, atmosphere, spirit and elements of public life were inspired by paintings of bellarusian artist Marc Chagall. S U S TA I N A B I L I T Y Sustainability and energy sources treatment solution are crucial elements of the design. Water is being recycled organically in the common space. Gardening is used as a sustainable way of living - private resources improve the public space. AWARD Project was awarded by 3rd place in the student competition Soutěž pro vodu (Water sustainability).

ASSIGNMENT Ďáblice is the oldest housing estate constiting of prefabricated block of flats in the city of Prague. It offers a higher level of the environment quality of living, compared to the city districts built afterwards. Although the actual state of the central part does not meet the demands on a contemporary public space. CONCEPT The aim of the project is to reborn the original idea of garden cities, which has not been full-filled in the communistic era of urban development. Metro station built in 1990´s is in unsatisfactory condition. Suggested solution propose to cover the subway station with a hill for the purpose of a park. The construction of the inner open part is used as a hanger for cells, that serve as offices for locals. The main of them is meant for the Mayor, to arrange meetings with inhabitants of the quarter. Particular problems of the site are solved and described on each of the illustrated cross sections (e. g. places for all age brackets, bicycle transport support, business support). AWARD Project was awarded by a Special prize of the Mayor in a student competition Centrum Ládví. 6

Project Student competition Date Autumn 2016 Place Národní divadlo, Praha authors: Jakub Med, Johanka Šimčíková * 1st prize
ASSIGNMENT Student competition´s assignment was announced by Czech University of Life Sciences and by National theather institution. It is placed in a public space in the surroundings of the theather - piazetta (Václav Havel square) and behind the historic building. The aim was to revitalise planting containers. CONCEPT Each of the both places is based on a different design concept. The concept for the piazetta renovation comes out of the tension between the demands on public space in the time it was originally realized and the contemporary needs. Therefore it is proposed to become a more livable and comfortable area, usable for relaxation, but (among others) also as a platform during cultural events. The area behind the historic building should be a reminder of the history we should be proud of. AWARD Project has been awarded by a 1st prize in the student competition. Realization is planned in 2017.

Project Park za pivovarem - public architectural competition Date Autumn 2016 Place Vysoké Mýto, Czech Republic authors: Jakub Med, Johanka Šimčíková * 3rd prize
ASSIGNMENT Public competition assignment was placed in an old brewery area in a city of Vysoké Mýto. The site could be characterized as a brownfield, but certain qualities are recognizable already. CONCEPT The concept is to open the area for the public use and make it freely acessible for the locals. it becomes literally an open garden for the neighbourhood. There are two main paths, one is crossing the area in the south-north direction and serves as a bikeway. The other is a circular way through the park used for strolling. Pergola is situated right in the centre of the park. Its shape and construction is a reminder of former brewery buildings. It is to be used above all during special events, such as kids days, local traditional festivals and celebrations. Particular elements arranged in the park are proposed, e.g. waterplay area or playground elements. S U S TA I N A B I L I T Y Natural and sustainable design and use of local plants is an important aim of the design. Remained mature trees on the site creates not only attractive environment for people, but also a livable area for the fauna. AWARD Project has been awarded by a 3d prize in the public architectural competition.

Project Landscape studio Master class, Adriaan Geuze Date May 2015 Place Flevoland, Netherlands
ASSIGNMENT This project took place at the Wagenigen university during the exchange studies under the supervision of international architect Adriaan Geuze. Flevoland is situated in artificial wetlands at the sea coast, where animals are kept in fenced area. Due to the perfect conditions and deficiency of predators, therefore this area is highly overpopulated. The created biocorridor leads through the highly-valued farmland. This will allow animals to leave the area and spread to the landscape. CONCEPT The concept connects three important places of the polder into a triangle - both cities of Almere and Lelystad with the Horsterwold forest. Co-housing and small farms create a buffer for wild animals. The created greenbelt also prevents the expansure of the city into the fertile agricultural area. The inspiration for the idea was a class visit of Rembrandt´s paintings in Amsterdam, that forwarded the inspiration to a movie Alice in Wonderland (please, see the video link https://vimeo.com/180141473). A research of parametrically generated tree forms was a base to the designed form. Project was presented by a short movie accesible at: vimeo.com AWARD One of three best projects in the class (best presentation project). 14

take your neighbour!
come to czech landscape!
ASSIGNMENT It was completed as a freetime voluntary student project in the collaboration of Jaroslav Fragner Gallery and Czech University of Life Sciences. Multiple universities, architects and artists took part in the exhibition. Former cargo train station in Prague (Žižkov) and its indoor space was a platform for the exposition site. CONCEPT The key topic of the exhibiton was a traditional czech landscape. The unsual view was created by realizing a circuit with various stops, the exhibition was called „A circuit around the landscape“. Every stop had a different interactive element, with educative purpose or it aimed to make people think about the public space and environment from a different views. Particular elements were e.g. boxes with haptic landscape model, interactive building blocks or lokout tower with 360 degree panoramatic view of a landscape photography. Wheelbarrows used as transport vehicles, creating social interactivity, were a base for the name of the exhibition. It was created by playing with words – wheel barrow equals a circuit in czech language. My role was to lead and organize a group of students, create concept and realize it in situ. Project has been publicated in Czech TV, print and web media.

Project Post-war neighbourhood analysis, Wageningen univ. Date Spring 2015 Place Utrecht, Dordrecht (Netherlands) authors: Jakub Med, Dita Landovskรก
INTRODUCTION Project of systematic analysis of public and semipublic space in post-war neighbourhoods design was elaborated at the Wageningen university in the Netherlands during the Erasmus study program. Analysed city quarters are placed in Utrecht (Tolsteeg/Rotsoord, Pijlsweerd) and Dordrecht (Wielwijk, Crabbehof). Urban structure of analysed neighbourhoods is strictly planned with a well maintained green structure. Neighbourhoods are unified by repetitive elements, such as cut hedges, tree alleys and plant species. Neighbourhood analysis cover different scales according to the green structure of selected sites. Electricity harvesting
Official printed publication
ASSIGNMENT The task in the international competition was to propose an object producing energy. CONCEPT Well known statue of Little Mermaid finally gets an opposite – a palace of the prince, on the other bank of the gulf. Her fate will be no more so sad, she will once be for more close to her prince as in the Hans Christian Andersens fairytale. The technology used in the design is a clean energy generating solution based on piezoelectric energy harvesting. The construction of each leafe consists of a surface and a bending shaft. The surface captures the wind energy by its area and the shaft generates electric energy when it si bended. Its made of elastomeric piezoelectric toroids and rigid plates. Part of thepresentation energy lights up LED diods and the Comic rest is used to charge a battery bank. Bending ot the leafs displays wind energy, so the unseenable nature power could be seen and can change the form of the architecture and the public space. Form of the space is temporarily and continually changing. 28

„Now that she knew where the prince lived, the little mermaid spent many evenings and nights looking at the splendid palace. She swam nearer to the land than any of her sisters had ever dared. There was a marble balcony that cast its shadow across a narrow canal, and beneath it she hid and watched the young prince, who thought that he was all alone in the moonlight.“ The Little Mermaid - Den lille Havfrue (1837) Hans Christian Andersen

Project Elderly housing renovation Date Summer 2016 Place Mladá Boleslav authors: Jakub Med, Lucie Jonášová
ASSIGNMENT Assignment was to renovate a central space - an atrium - of a home for elderly people with limited movement ability. Client – the Municipality of Mladá Boleslav. CONCEPT Curved closed pathway is the fundamental element of the designed space. It serves as a path for every-day walk. Variability of the experience during both, a single stroll and season changes, is a motivation for elderly residents to do it as part of their daily excercise. Sculpture-like path is made of concrete. A shelter for collective activities, like barbecue, chess playing or art crafts, is placed in the eastComic presentation northern corner. Plants are proposed to change during the season. A natural pool planted with flowers and grass is situated in northern corner. Specially elevated benches to meet the residents requirements are placed along the pathway. This project has been elaborated in all phases, from architectural study to realization with supervision by the authors during the construction. Published in media. 32

ASSIGNMENT Project is situated in the north of the Czech republic in the Giant Mountains. Saint Peter is one of the most attractive and popular czech ski resorts. The site is located next to a ski lift, opposite to a ski slope. Corner object realized a year ago requires to be extended. Goal of the client was to create a sort of a mountain luxurious shopping street. CONCEPT Structure and form of the building are determined and limited by the surrounding terrain and a road. Ground floor contains stores with a variety of possible tenants. Staircase in between Comic presentation the stores enables resort visitors to acces the roof. Roof serves as a new kind of free accesed public space, that was completely absent in the area before. Steps are designed as a sitting equipment for sunbathing or as a terrace duriing the ski contests and shows. Multiple tables and benches are free of access for snack a tea breaks. Northern part of the buildings includes a ski service with technical facilities. A former restaurant extension nearby was also designed as part of the next project. 34

CONCEPT The Elementary art school Chodov, located in Pragues estate is situated between the city panel houses and a forest park. Capacity of the school is 1 400 students. The designed building is divided into five parts - the main part with a hall, art, dance, music and administration part of the school. Structure of the building is based on a regular grid. The coloured corridor divides the school into parts, it helps the orientation inside the building. Public space and the inner space of the classes are visually connected, the school is then socially involved in daily public life. Transparency of the public institution is emphasized. Classrooms and corridors open to the street and enrich the Comic presentation surrounding public space.
