Dyserth Community Fair Share Phonebox

Dyserth Community Fair Share Phonebox

Many of you have been asking when Dyserth’s latest community venture will be opening, so here’s an update to let everyone know. Dyserth Community Council have arranged and paid for a smart new coat of paint on the box in James’s Park, behind the Bodunig pub. The council have also now installed a lock which will be used overnight and there is also a working light. We had hoped that the shelving would be installed by the end of October but a new back board is needed behind the shelving due to holes left taking the old equipment out and that has slowed things down.

The idea is that this box will complement the ‘Telephone Library’ on Cwm Road, which is a busy book exchange, enjoyed by many Dyserth residents. However the Fair Share phonebox will fulfil a broader function. The idea is not a new one and operates successfully around the country and we have been lucky to have advice and support from the team behind a thriving local one in Trelawnyd. You can come to donate food, personal care items such as soap, toothpaste, sanitary products etc or you can come to pick up items that you need. The only rules are no alcohol or cigarettes.

As the expected opening date should now be before the next edition of the Dyserth Times, look out on social media for news about this. We will announce the date on the Dyserth Times Facebook page. Our thanks go first and foremost to Dyserth Community council for their efforts around this community enterprise, along with Katie, the proprietor of Frankie’s café and Pete the landlord of the Bodunig, who will open and close the box every day. Hopefully there will be an ‘Open’ sign on our Dyserth box very soon, like the one on the Trelawnyd box up the road. (pictured).
