Dyserth Women's Institute

Women’s Institute (WI) Sefydliad y Merched (SyM)

Here we are again, it's Autumn, the clocks have gone back and that means it’s time for our Annual Meeting to elect next year’s Committee and reflect on the activities of the past W.I. year. Our accounts are in order which includes a healthy bank balance and we now have 63 members making us one of the largest Institutes locally.

As well as the necessary business [the existing Committee was re-elected with the addition of one new member] we also had a Chippy Quiz which is exactly what it sounds like – a light-hearted quiz along with a chip super.

In October some of us joined members from Mold W.I in their annual educational trip. Joy of joys it was to Cadbury World! We found out a great deal more about the history of chocolate and it’s manufacture. It was interesting to find out how the Quaker owners of Bourneville, the Cadbury’s were keen to develop the garden village of Bourneville for their workers and to provide opportunities for education and recreation. We also had a fascinating guided tour around Bourneville village although it was from the coach rather than on foot because of the inclement weather. Oh and we all bought copious amounts of chocolate from the factory shop – several Christmas gifts sorted!

Next month we will have our Xmas Party which will include Christmas games, singing, good food and drink and of course the traditional Twelve Days of Christmas.

In December we will make our annual 'pilgrimage' to Chester Cathedral to take part in their Christmas Crackers concert. This year the narrator is Lemn Sissay, broadcaster, author and poet.

Our Walking, Singing and Craft Groups will have a break during December. Too much else going on! When they restart details will be posted on our Facebook page and also circulated by email, as usual.

Dyserth W.I. continues to offer fun and friendship to any woman living in and around Dyserth including Trelawnyd, Rhyl, Rhuddlan and Prestatyn. We meet at 7.00 p.m. on the second Friday of every month [except August]
