DYSERTH FLOODING SUPPORT GROUP

Hi to you all! As you may or may not know, I am organizing a community-led flooding support group for our wonderful village.

We had a very successful and well-turned out meeting, and have started a Facebook Group where we can share information, ideas and support.

What I’d like to do though is let any residents who do not use Facebook (You’re the lucky ones, trust me!) know what our aims are, and how to contact us with any concerns or advice.

Our Aims:

1) Provide advice and front-line volunteer support for vulnerable properties in the event of flooding in the area - including sandbags, pumping equipment, waterproofs etc.

2) Identify the most vulnerable properties and areas and work to give them some general advice and support on flood defenses.

3) Apply pressure to Denbighshire County Council (River up to New Inn Bridge and general upkeep of culverts) and National Resources Wales (River FROM New Inn Bridge onwards) to address these issues and provide regular maintenance of problem areas.

We will soon be forming a formal community group which will give us structure and allow us to raise funding from various bodies, so anyone who would like to be involved in this would be VERY much encouraged to get on board.

The meeting was attended by several councilors at the village and county level, as well as Dr James Davies and Gareth Davies MS, and the momentum so far has been very promising.

We have already had a great response from DCC who have attempted clearing some culverts around the village, and there is a meeting soon between David Williams and representatives from DCC and NRW to assess our next steps.

In the meantime, if anyone would like to get in touch, they can reach me on jasonvernon1@hotmail.co.uk and I would be happy to give you any further information.

This is the start of something great for the village and hopefully we can create something long lasting to mitigate the persistent flooding issues.

Thanks for your time-

Jason Vernon
