Indoor Classes

Karate

Karate is focused on the development of defensive and counterattacking body movements. Students will progress through belts under the instruction of Debra Sullivan, a 6th Degree Black belt. Students will work both mentally and physically to overcome challenges faced in the class.

Days: Mondays and Wednesdays

Jazzercise

Burn up to 600 calories in one fun and powerfully effective 60 minute total body workout. Every Jazzercize group dance fitness class combines dance-based cardio with strength training and stretching to sculpt, tone, and lengthen muscles for a maximum burn. Choreographed to today’s hottest music, Jazzercize is a fusion of jazz, dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing.

Days: Mornings Monday-Friday 8:30AM-9:30AM

Evenings Monday-Thursday 5:30PM-6:30PM

Belly Dancing

Whether you are looking for a new and unique way to workout, or you just want to hang out with new friends, our Belly Dancing class has you covered. In the class you will be taught by experienced instructors in the art of Belly Dancing. Students will use both slow movements and fast steps in this low-impact weight bearing form of exercise. Students should wear yoga pants and a comfortable T-Shirt.

Tai Chi for Health

Tai Chi is a non-combative form of martial arts focused on relaxation, balance, and strength. Transitioning slowly between movements makes this ideal for those that struggle with traditional forms of exercise. Class is taught by Debra Sullivan, a 6th degree black belt, who has 30+ years of experience teaching martial arts. Participants will leave feeling relaxed and with a better sense of balance.

Beginngers’ Yoga

In this class, you’ll embark on a journey to discover the foundations of yoga practice in a supportive and tranquil environment. Lisa Gregor, a board certified yoga instructor, will guide you through gentle asanas, breathing techniques, and relaxation exercises, helping you build flexibility, strength, and mindfulness.

Sherman Farmers Market

Visit our local Farmers Market where you can purchase local produce, meat, eggs, and artisan goods every Saturday from 9AM-noon, at the corner of Crockett and Houston Streets, through October!

42nd Annual Sherman Arts Fest

Get ready for the City of Sherman’s 42nd Annual Arts Festival, RAIN or SHINE! It’s a fun-filled day for the entire family that kicks off with the Sherman Education Foundation’s 5K and Fun Run, then stick around to hear all of the awesome Musical Acts and Live Performances on Multiple Stages throughout the day! There will be tons of amazing food and beverage vendors, a huge Kids’ Alley, woodcarving, craft and marketplace vendors, children’s and adult Art Shows, Farmers Market, and more!

Youth Art Show

Do you have an artist in the family? The Youth Art show presented during Arts Fest, is a perfect time to show off these brilliant masterpieces. Artwork will be on display for the entire community to view, and awards will be given to the top three finishers in each grade.

Sherman Main Street’s Haunted History Tours

Embark on an adventure across historic downtown Sherman! Journey through a chilling series of true events and strange happenings throughout Sherman’s history. From disappearances to ghost sightings, poltergeists to unexplained phenomena! All our tours now feature stopping inside at least one of our spooky destinations for exploration and refreshments.

Movie in the Park

Enjoy time with family and friends after sunset outdoors in the Park. We will be showing “Hocus Pocus 2” on the big screen. Lawn chairs or a blanket are encouraged. We will have simple concessions for sale during the movie.

Special Needs Fall Festival

This sensory sensitive event has all the nostalgia of a typical fall festival, so that it is inviting for all people. Fall themed games, activities, and prizes will be available for all participants.

NOT Summer Nights Concert

Our new favorite tradition- NOT Summer Nights brings your favorite summer concert series (Hot Summer Nights) into the fall! Help us welcome the GIN BLOSSOMS to the stage! Grab your blanket & lawn chairs, a cooler or cocoa, maybe a flannel(?!), and some friends to enjoy a great night of live music on the Sherman Municipal Grounds. Pack a picnic or enjoy our food vendors on site!

Trick or Treat on Travis Street

This is a free, safe, family-friendly way to kick off your Halloween. This event will have booths that stretch down North Travis Street and Wall Street. We would love to have your business sign up to set up a booth and pass out candy.

Fright Fest

Sherman Police Department is once again hosting Fright Fest at our park! Local vendors will be handing out candy in a safe space. Enjoy visiting with vendors, snagging candy, and listening to great music throughout the night.

Mother Son Dance

Moms, it is time to show your sons that you can still dance. This event is for moms or mom-like figures to take your little man out. This year’s theme is a GLOW Party! Wear white and to decorate with highlighters! Glow Sticks are of course encouraged.

Veteran’s Day Parade

You are invited to come celebrate the service of our United States military veterans at Sherman’s Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Sherman, on Veterans Day- Saturday, November 11th, at 10:00am. We would love for you to join us, either by becoming a parade participant, or by attending the parade with your family. Thank you for supporting our local veterans!

Family Night Hike

Lace up your hiking boots because it is time to hit the trail. As a group, we will hike the trail around Herman Baker Park. After the hike, we will come back to the campfire to roast marshmallows and have s’mores.

Christmas Tree Lighting

This Christmas season brings us tidings of good cheer...AND our inaugural City of Sherman Christmas Tree Lighting! Join us for hot cocoa, carols, photo ops, and more as we light up the Square with our big, beautiful Christmas Tree to officially kick off the Christmas season!

Nights of Lights

Enjoy the enchantment of over 100,000 christmas lights covering trees along the walking trail at Pecan Grove West. The night is complete with live performances, children entertainment, food trucks, the lighting of the christmas tree and lights, and of course Santa himself will be there to take pictures with. If you are not able to make it to the opening night, the lights will be shining for the entire month of Decemeber.

Christmas Parade & Snowflake Festival

The festivities begin at 2PM with our Snowflake Festival around the Grayson County Courthouse Square. The Festival includes free pictures with Santa, shopping specials, food & beverage vendors, a themed bounce house for the kiddos, live music on the Courthouse steps, Christmas market, train rides, and more! Then, at 6 PM the legendary Sherman Christmas Parade will commence. Keep an eye on our Visit Sherman Facebook page for this year’s magical theme.

Kickstarter Soccer Class

Kickstarter is a soccer program for boys and girls who are looking to be introduced to the game. The program enables the participants to have a head start if they decide to pursue soccer beyond 5 years of age.

Pickleball

Indoor Pickleball Clinics- Beginner

Come learn about the fastest growing sport in America, Pickleball. Played on a court, this sport is a cross between tennis and ping pong that is played as singles or doubles. New players are always welcome to learn about the rules of the game and fundamental skills, as well asplayers with experience that need to refresh and practice their fundamentals.

Outdoor Pickleball Lessons

FrancoRacquetSports offers Pickleball group lessons that allow you to enjoy sessions with others while receiving a similar level of instruction offered in a private pickleball lesson setting.

All law enforcement and fire/emergency personnel are invited to stop by the center and enjoy a light meal and give our members a chance to say thank you for all you do.

This one is for the Ladies! Show the Center who really rules the pool table. All women are welcome to particpate, while the men take notes.

SOCKTOBER

Each night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. The Senior Center would like your help participating in “Soctober”. Bring a NEW, UNUSED pair of socks to the center’s donation box. Encourage all your friends and family to join in our collection of socks as well. We will be delivering them to our local shelters at the end of the month.

PUMPKIN CARVING/DECORATING CONTEST

It is time again for our annual pumpkin carving and decorating contest. Pumpkins must be carved/ decorated at the center. This will allow you to take your pumpkin home and have it on display for Halloween. Join us at the Haloween Health Fair where pumpkins will be judged and the top three winners will be awarded prizes.

HALLOWEEN HEALTH FAIR

This annual event, formerly titled Halloween Hoopla, is a fun filled afternoon for Seniors. Local organizations and businesses set up booths with information and door prizes! Healthy snacks and treats will be passed out from each booth. We will have musical entertainment and lots of fun. Join in the costume contest!

TRI-COUNTY SENIOR FISHING FESTIVAL

The annual Tri-County Senior Fishing Festival is a little delayed this year. This event is open to any resident of Cooke, Fannin or Grayson Counties (fifty years of age or older as of Nov. 3, 2023). There will be fishing contests, a casting contest, door prizes awarded, and lunch is served. For more information or a registration form contact the Sherman Senior Center.

VETERANS RECOGNITION

We will honor all our Veterans with a free meal. ALL Veterans who are age 50 and over are invited to attend, including family and friends. Pre-register at the Senior Center.

TURKEY SHOOT

Our annual “Turkey Shoot” is going to be a big hit! As always, this event will be lots of fun with prizes awarded to the best shooters. Those who have participated in this game previously can verify “no animals are harmed” in this activity.
