Stewardship Committee

Stewardship – It’s Not About the Money by Sue Beulke

Stewardship: the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care. What has God entrusted to you? It’s easier to step back and look at broader stewardship ideas. As Christians, we believe that God created the earth and we are to be stewards of his creation, caring for it and preserving it for future generations. If you are environmentally minded, you recycle, are mindful of what fertilizers and pesticides you use, refrain from littering and even stop to pick up after those who do (thank you to our youth and those who worked on the ditch cleanup Sept. 24). When we accept and enter the gift of marriage we commit to loving and honoring our spouse. When we become parents we are entrusted with the physical care and spiritual growth of another gift from God, our children. It’s getting more personal now, isn’t it? Why is it we struggle so much with the idea that our money also comes from God? God knew we would, maybe that’s why the

subject of money is mentioned so many times in the bible. We like to think that our money and everything we have is the result of our own efforts. Sounds a little prideful, doesn’t it? God is creator of all-the heavens, the earth, and man. He gave us the talents we use to earn a living and entrusts us to use them according to his will. So stewardship really isn’t about money. It’s about what we will do with the resources that God has entrusted to us. He is very clear that we are to take the gifts he has blessed us with and use them so that they multiply and grow. Read Matthew 25:14-30, the parable of the talents. He’s looking, testing even, to see that we have a servant’s heart and will do what he asks with an attitude of gratitude. It’s not about the money. God is our provider, we are the beneficiaries of his gifts, the greatest of which is his son, Jesus Christ. It’s about a servant’s heart, an attitude of gratitude, and making a difference with the gifts we’ve been given. Don’t we all want to hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant?”

Women of Peace by Sarah Strand

The Women of Peace welcomes all women at Peace Lutheran to attend their various meetings and activities throughout the year. We are a group of women with a mission. We met on August 29, 2017 to discuss how Women of Peace will look going forward. Peace has grown significantly and it is important for all women to know they are a part of Women of Peace. Women of Peace is a large group, with multiple “sub-groups.” Some things that already take place are: Orphan Grain Train, N.A.P.S., and monthly morning meetings. Activities in the future include 10:00 am Ladies’ Coffee Table at Mario’s in Watertown, Bible Studies, and quarterly business meetings. Our next quarterly business meeting is on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 8:30 am – 10:30 am. We will provide coffee and a light snack. This will also be a simple women’s workshop and a time to get away from the holiday stress and enjoy some fellowship amongst all women.

Having a Mary Spirit; Allowing God t0 Change us from the Inside Out

by Joanna Weaver

Women’s Bible and Book study will begin on Thursday, October 5th at 6:30PM. “Joanna equips us with biblical insights and practical tools to partner with Christ, inviting him into the hidden places of our souls and giving Him full permission to redeem and renovate. We will be travelling throughout Scripture drawing on the stories of biblical Marys and others whose experience with God transformed their lives. Weaver shows how we can find hope, healing and wholeness in the midst of our ever stressful lives. “ Everyone is welcome. Joanna Weaver’s writing style talks to her readers in ways that does not intimidate. You don’t have to be a biblical scholar to understand her points or to participate in the conversations which often lead to laughter as we joyously grow in our relationship with God. October 5th will be a time to order your book($9.00), but more importantly, it will be a time to meet everybody, pray and discuss a few Bible passages that prepare us for God’s great work in each of us. If you have any questions please call, text, or email Linda Boyadjis at : 612816-1741 or lboyadjis@hotmail.com

Mission Ministry Team

Orphan Grain Train—Relief for Human Need Worldwide by Sue Ziermann

Orphan Grain Train (OGT) is a Christian volunteer network that ships donated food, clothing, medical, and other needed items to people in 70 different countries including 30 states in the USA. Out of every dollar spent 97% goes directly for helping people in need. A very lean 3% goes for administration and fundraising. Peace Lutheran has donated to OGT since April of 2015. Peace members have gathered, sewn, and donated items for the Layette project and pillow case dress project. Recently, on September 12th, an additional 93 layettes have been sent out to those in need.

For more information on OGT, visit www.ogt.org.

Fast Facts 

OGT volunteers have given more than 3,648,687 hours of work since 1992, sorting, packing, and shipping items with love and care. Fiscal year 201617 had 97,626 volunteer hours valued at $878,634.90 if paid $9/hour.

One 40-ft.-long ocean-going freight container will cost between $5,000 and $19,000 to ship (an average of $11 for each box of relief supplies shipped).

A total of 208 shipments were shipped in fiscal year 2016-17, 107 to foreign countries and 101 to domestic locations.

Orphan Grain Train serves 90 orphanages in Russia and former Soviet Republics.

Last year more than 4.4 million meals were shipped by Orphan Grain Train. More than 15 million meals have been shipped since OGT started.

101 semi-loads were sent to children and families in need in the U.S., and 107 - 40 ft. shipping containers were sent internationally in the 2016-2017 Fiscal Year.

Of every dollar spent, 97 cents go for the mission of helping disaster victims and other needy people in this country and around the world.

Mission Sunday September 24 was mission Sunday. During Worship we took time to talk about the various missions we support and recognize the many people at Peace who help with missions & mission projects. Here are some of Thank You Notes we received this month. Every time we make a donation or work on a project, we are making a difference in the lives of people around the world. A complete list of missions can be found on our website at www.come2peace.com. If you are interested in joining the mission team, talk to Ruth Clark.

“Yea God” for John Weinzierl

The Shed Team

“Yea God” for John Weinzierl. John spent several afternoons last month cleaning the windows inside and out. John is also here every Monday and Thursday helping with the church cleaning and will often come back for special projects (including the new shed). His dedication and hard work is very appreciated. He did such a great job, perhaps he should consider coming out of retirement. I know my windows could use a good cleaning. Thank you John for the care you show our building.

“Yea God” for the perseverance and hard work of the men who put the shed together. Tom Mittelstaedt built the base and Bill Hoernemann, Paul Nesvold, John Weinzierl, Phil Schansberg, Norm Bauer, and Jeff Berg assembled the shed.

Welcome Wall & Connect Counter

On July 23, we dedicated the new flag pole. Charter member, Ardelle L. Carlson generously left a legacy gift to provide this flag pole for the church. It was her desire to honor those who have served and protected our country in the armed forces, including members of her family.

The new Welcome Wall and Connect Counter were installed in time for Rally Sunday and the response has been very positive. The Welcome Wall displays PLC information and opportunities for visitors. We are still working on brochures and literature for the wall.

The Connect Counter is the information center for PLCers. It is a way to connect our church members with the information they may need. Both the Connect Counter and the Welcome Wall are a work in progress, watch for updates and new additions to come.

Thank you to the Watertown American Legion Post 121 for donating the flag and to Tom Mittelstaedt, Norm Bauer, John Weinzierl, and Bob Rieckenberg for doing the necessary work required to get the flag pole installed. The flag pole came from Countryside Flagpole in Hutchinson, Minnesota and is 25 feet tall.

The properties team installed a new shed last month for equipment and lawn care items. The shed required assembly which the wind and bees made more difficult. In the end, the men prevailed over the conditions and finished the shed.

We are very appreciative of Amy Peterson and the Outreach Team’s work on this project. Their diligent work and attention to detail can be seen in every aspect of the additions. We would also like to say a “Yea God” for Tom Lemmerman of Lemmerman Construction in Delano for constructing the Welcome Wall and Connect Counter. Tom donated all his time for this project which was a huge blessing.

Blankets & quilts (like these two made by Joan Nesvold and Lillie Tesch) are handmade by members of PLC. The quilts and blankets are donated to nonprofit organizations and given as gifts for events such as graduations and baptisms. Do you enjoy quilting, crocheting, or knitting? You can join this team of talented women. They also accept material and yarn donations.

Bible Presentation Sunday This year the 3rd and 7th Grade Bibles were put on a table in the commons for a few weeks for others to highlight their favorite verse and write a prayer to the recipient. On September 17th, the Bibles were presented to Ariel Alaspa, Peyton Feltmann, Morgen Juncewski, Rylee May, Andrew Seefeldt, Mallory Thorson, Brynn Foster, Cullen May, Karver Schroeder, and Hallie Simon. After receiving their Bibles, the 3rd and 7th graders read an assigned scripture from the Bible.

Rylee May and Morgen Juncewski performed the special music on Bible Presentation Sunday

IGNITE Confirmation is in full swing. One of their first activities was to decorate their journal. Rylee May, Mallory Thorson, and Luke Hanson won the top spots for best decorated. Page 7

The fourth Sunday of the month is youth activity day. In September the youth (with help from the adults) did the bi-annual ditch cleaning. After that, they were off to Sever’s Corn Maze for some fall fun. www.come2peace.com

Ladies’ Weekly Coffee Table Mario’s in Watertown Thursdays @ 10:00 This informal ladies' coffee group meet Thursday mornings at 10 AM. It is not a Bible study and has no agenda; rather, it is simply a time for coffee, fellowship, & perhaps one of Mario's famous ‘cannoli’. All Peace Ladies are invited!

“Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” is a great opportunity to get to know other people at Peace and have a fun evening of fellowship and dinner. If you are married or single and out of high school, you’re invited! We need guests and hosts. Hosts provide the main course (something simple) and will be told how many guests to expect and what meal accompaniment guests are bringing. Guests, will bring an appetizer, salad, or dessert, and be given the address of the dinner party. To keep if fun, don’t tell anyone if you’re a host or guest, the address of the dinner party you will be attending, or try to figure out the identity of the host(s). Sign up by Sunday, October 1st by completing this form and placing it in the offering plate or in the box on the counter in the Commons Area.
