‘It has been an honour’ THE hard work and loyalty of constabulary employees has been recognised in an awards ceremony at headquarters. Twelve received long-service awards from Chief Constable Mike Barton after each notched up 22 years of service. They were: PCs Alison Bonar, Andrew Boyd, Damien Stevens and Vicky Coxon; Detective Inspector Audra Fawcett; Detective Constable Steven (Jack) Frost; Mrs Carole Johnson; Detective Sergeant Bridie Kinnane; Sergeants Lee Morris, Christopher Todd and Jim Peel; Special Sergeant Lee Redmayne. Mr Barton also handed out chief’s commendations. PC Dean Wilson was awarded a commendation for his determination, commitment and compassion while dealing with vulnerable people with mental health issues. PC Anthony Kelly, Ms Jacqueline Wray-Bradshaw (Stoneham Housing) and Mr David Hopper (St Vincent de Paul Society) were commended for their determination, commitment and compassion while
supporting a vulnerable man and making a real difference to his life. Police and community support officers (PCSOs) Rebecca Carey and Helen Robson were commended for their dedication and commitment to reducing under-age drinking, raising awareness of the harm caused by alcohol. In addition to receiving a long-service award Vicky Coxon was commended for her tenacity and investigative skills in dealing with a complaint of harassment. Temporary Superintendent Steve Chapman and Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Lyn Peart were commended for their leadership, professionalism and attention to detail during the investigation into the fatal stabbing of Peter Maine. Mrs Lorna Henderson (Operation Rhine) was commended following a prosecuting barrister describing her analytical work to secure convictions against organised crime groups as the best he had
ever seen. Mrs Stacey Barker was commended for her initiative, professionalism and consideration when dealing with a vulnerable man who was threatening to take his own life. Joe Anderson was commended for his involvement in an innovative problem-orientated partnership plan to combat the rising trend in telephone fraud. Lyn Peart, Temporary Detective Inspector Lyndsay Banks-Brown, PC Tony Murray and PC Joseph Greenwood were all commended for their innovation, dedication and victim focus in an on-going problemorientated partnership approach to combat the rising trend in fraud. His leadership, commitment and dedication following a serious injury road collision at Cheapside, Spennymoor, on June 9, last year also led to a commendation for Lee Morris. Dogs will have their day at BikeWise 2016 MAKE sure you put Sunday, July 24 in your diary. That is the day the force’s headquarters will host BikeWise 2016. The event will also include DogWise which has previously been held at East Durham College’s

Houghall Campus. However, due to building work, the event cannot be held there this year. Therefore, Aykley Heads will host a bumper Durham Constabulary fun day which will include BikeWise and DogWise. It is sure to be one to remember!
