With a career spanning 17 years, Exercise Physiologist and Strength and Conditioning Coach Brent Goriss knows his stuff. He’s worked with TAFE Queensland, Townsville Crocodiles, The Queensland Academy of Sport and the Australian Women’s Cricket Team, and his knowledge of health and fitness inevitably rubbed off on wife Lyndsey. When the two met in 2006 Lyndsey was working in marketing, then after welcoming the couple’s daughter Willow in late 2008, Lyndsey felt the need for change. She gained qualification as a personal trainer, and started 5 Star Fitness in 2012, initially as a womenonly circuit class, which boomed overnight. Lyndsey expanded the business to include a 12 Week Challenge, a Mums and Bubs class and Fun Fitness 4 Kidz Townsville delivered
through childcare centres. “Through the whole process, Brent has been my sounding board,” says Lyndsey, whose goal to have Brent on board full-time was realised in January 2016. “Lyndsey had started something that was connecting with people and growing at a rate we hadn’t anticipated so early on,” recalls Brent. “With both of us committed full-time to the business we’ve been able to add more sessions to our 12 Week Challenges and launch an online business offering training programs, nutrition plans and a 6 Week Online Body Blitz package.” “Brent’s added another dimension to the business,” adds Lyndsey. “As an exercise physiologist, his qualification, experience and
knowledge in the industry is next-level. We can now service elite athletes, and clients who need modification due to injury or chronic illness.” 5 Star Fitness has grown to be Townsville’s largest 12 Week Challenge; and Lyndsey was a finalist for the Townsville Chamber of Commerce Young Business Person of the Year 2016. “Lyndsey’s always had strong people skills – and that’s something you just can’t teach,” offers Brent. “We’ve managed to create a positive environment for people to change their lives physically and mentally,” says Lyndsey. “We work well together because we share energy, enthusiasm and a similar work ethic – we need to with 4.30am starts!”
