August 13, 2011 WHO Administration support co-ordinator Anthea Champion (24) and retail vehicle salesperson Daniel Hegarty (26). WHERE Sacred Heart Cathedral INVITATIONS We made them ourselves and sent them in white square boxes with the invite inside wrapped in a sheet of silver floss. THE PROPOSAL Well, Dan actually had the ring for quite some time – years actually! I put the hard word on him and he finally popped the question early one Sunday morning at home. He was on bended knee, and I accepted without hesitation. GUESTS 200 THE DRESS The bodice had a sweetheart neckline and was well-fitted with embroidered lace and crystals. The skirt was layers of satin, netting and tulle. I had an extra strap added so it was two shoulders. THE SHOES White satin pointed toe sling-backs with a small heel. They had crystal beading across the top. PHOTOGRAPHER Stephen Lane Photography BEST PHOTO LOCATIONS We went to Customs House, ANZAC Park, the old Railway Station and the back of the museum; but my favourite was an alley way off Morris Street in the city. There is a graffiti angel painted on a wall and further down they have painted a brick wall a bright blue. THE CAKE My grandmother Mary Hill, my mother Shirley Champion and my aunt Joan Roebuck spent hours one weekend slaving over a hot stove making Gran’s traditional fruitcake. They made three cakes and my sister’s friend Kiersten Behan made a caramel mud cake and iced the whole lot. It was a four-tier cake with alternating square and circle layers. TRANSPORT Three Lexus cars – one black RX 350 which I arrived in, plus a silver RX 350 and IS 250. BRIDESMAIDS Four – my sister Kara Champion was my maid of honour and three great friends – Rhiannon Boyd, Rochell Petersen and Kellie Lawry – were my bridesmaids. The dresses were modelled off a Mari Goulay-style gown, but were all hand made in Bali. GROOM The groom, groomsmen and pageboy all wore grey pinstripe suits, with Dan wearing an ivory vest and tie and the rest of the men wearing the grey vest and purple tie. FLOWERS My bouquet was a teardrop arrangement and the bridesmaids were a posy style; all made of white and silver moon roses, and dark purple lisianthus. RECEPTION Townsville RSL CATERING As we had a large wedding, we opted to have platters served to all of the tables with a variety of foods – it was incredible. HONEYMOON Two relaxing weeks in Kuta, Bali. TIP FOR ENGAGED COUPLES As everyone says, enjoy the day! It goes way too quickly and don’t sweat the small stuff. No one is going to know if something is not completely right.
