Kristin Martin

Tell us a little about yourself? I am a born and bred Townsville girl and am married to my husband of 3.5 years, Daimon. I am a qualified makeup artist and keep busy running my own freelance makeup business ‘Kristin Martin Makeup Artist’. This year I was Head of the Makeup Committee for the Townsville Fashion Festival and feel strongly about growing creative industries in North Queensland. Describe your style? My style is always evolving as I am constantly researching the latest trends in fashion and makeup for my business which usually translates to what I wear. Overall I would say it is refined, minimalistic and edgy, yet practical! I like block colours and have taken a liking to green, navy and burgundy, which is a great addition to the black, white and grey that was taking over. Labels you like? At the moment I really like the style options and colours in Forever New and Cue. However, if I could, my wardrobe would be full of labels like Maticevski, Galanni or Lanvin. They all do amazing work with colour, texture and structure that always catches my eye. Best shopping trip? Melbourne! The fashion, style and culture of that city always inspires me. I wish I could visit there more often. Your style guru? I don’t really have just one person I take styling tips from. I guess Gwen Stefani, Victoria Beckham or Kate Moss have styles I would wear. I do love the carefree attitude of Vivienne Westwood or Iris Apfel and the confidence of Anna Wintour. I think they would be my most inspirational fashion guru’s. You’d never be caught wearing…? I guess you should never say never, but an ultra-feminine frilly dress with flowers or plaid would not be my first choice. Wardrobe item you can’t bring yourself to part with and why? Somehow I have managed to hold onto a khaki green Calvin Klein military trench coat style dress. I still pull it out to wear from time to time as it’s really versatile. Meaningful last words? Style is knowing who you are and what you want to say – and not caring what anyone else thinks about it. DUOMagazine June 2016
