I'm properly chuffed to be writing this as Dundee Rep's new Associate Artistic Director. I look forward to creating and programming work for this extraordinary stage. The relationship between the performers and the audience in this room is special – but we need you to make it happen. We aim to move you, entertain you and get you out of your seats.

We welcome some of the finest theatre companies around this autumn, with more Shakespeare from The Globe and the National Theatre of Scotland revisiting us with Glasgow Girls. The Season Ticket is a must-see for football fans and is designed by Dundee Rep regular Jean Chan. Gothic fans will be pleased to see productions of Jekyll & Hyde and Frankenstein taking the stage.

Ensemble productions over the next few months kick off with the return of The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil. We were blown away by the response last year and by popular demand, it's back in a touring version. We aim to do Dundee proud by taking this important story across the country – so tell your pals in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow. Tickets are already flying, so get ‘em booked early...

The best of comedy is on offer with returning favourites Craig Hill, Jimeoin and Mark Thomas – and a special visit from Frankie Boyle and Friends.

We have a night of music from Horse and a piece of gig-theatre performed with Glasgow band Tuff Love – direct from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Blow Off will blow your mind.

Following this, the new graduate actors join us in September, ready for the community tour of Spoiling

by Dundee writer John McCann. Fans of Yes Minister or The Thick of It will love this satirical gem of a play, set on the eve of an independent Scotland. The play tore up the Edinburgh Festival Fringe a couple of years ago and this will be its first production since then – look out for writing workshop opportunities around it.

Scottish Dance Theatre turns 30 years young this year and we are having a party! Join us on Friday 30 September for a memorable night celebrating the past, present and future of our dance company.

Whilst the in-house dance company goes from strength to strength touring internationally, on stage we welcome the renowned balletLORENT and their contemporary retelling of Snow White.

September sees the Rep celebrate Black History month with shows including The Collector, Soweto Spiritual Singers, Black Is The Color Of My Voice and the rearranged Le Gateaux Chocolat. Our exceptional community work is celebrated with a special ceilidhthemed performance from our Illuminate Ensemble.

Going into the festive season, Starcatchers return to our studio with a new work for little ones called The Shape of Things.

And Christmas wouldn't be Christmas at the Rep recently without a bit of Roald Dahl! After directing The BFG in 2013, I'm excited to work with the Ensemble to tell the story of a naughty child, a wicked grandma and a peculiar concoction. George's Marvellous Medicine will make your tummy feel funny and give you a growth mindset, the perfect tonic for Christmas. Bring on the giant chickens!

Come along and join the circus!

Wed 17 - Sat 20 August, 7.30pm Roll up, roll up! Dundee Schools Music Theatre return to Dundee Rep with a spectacular performance of Barnum, the musical based on the life of circus impresario Phineas Taylor Barnum. Colourful characters and songs together with juggling, stilt walking and a host of circus skills combine to make this a show to remember.

Dundee Schools Music Theatre was created in 1998. It took S4–S6 pupils from all of Dundee's ten secondary schools and brought them together to form the very first DSMT cast. In August 1999, DSMT gave its debut performance – Guys and Dolls. The production was an instant success.

Is Robert Burns still alive and hiding out from the women he wronged in a pub in Dundee?

Don’t be daft.

Is that posh woman with the good coat in the corner a lot more dangerous than she appears?

Who knows?

In the years since, DSMT has expanded considerably and now runs separate groups for S1 – S2, S3 – S4 and S5 – S6 pupils with Back to Back for post development pupils (1st year of further or higher education).

Did Robert’s mate Tam O’Shanter somehow upset a couple of Hell’s Angels during an innocent pub quiz?

Probably.

Dundee Schools Music Theatre aims to educate young people in all aspects of musical theatre and performance. The cast receive workshops from industry professionals in techniques such as acting, singing, dance, stage fighting, makeup and hair design, costume design and circus skills. These have included workshops given by West End performer Nick Lewis, opera singer Ann-Marie Ives and Utopia Costumes Ltd. to name but a few.

The project also has a dedicated team of staff who work regularly with young people.

And does that send them on an epic journey across the pubs of Dundee in a quest to save their skins, hide from the past and find the perfect Pina Colada with a Bailey’s shot?

Sounds likely.

And is the past finally going to catch up with Scotland’s unprincipled, good looking, chancer of a poetic genius?

Oh aye. Definitely.

Written as a musical drama by John McGrath, it explores stories and experiences of Scotland’s land, sea and people across the centuries.

Relevant, political theatre, it was one of the most highly-acclaimed shows at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, winning a prestigious Fringe First Award.

Fri 7 October, 7.30pm Scotland’s Number One comedy promoters bring their brand of Award Winning Comedy nights to Dundee Rep Theatre, with Frankie Boyle & Friends.

The King of Darkness makes his way to Dundee with a few comedy friends in tow for a night to remember. After his appearances on Mock The Week, Live at The Apollo and Live Floor Show, Frankie Boyle established himself as one of the best comedians in the country if not the world.

Supporting Frankie on the night will be Scottish Comedy Legend Fred MacAulay. Fred arrived late to the world of stand-up comedy but has gone on to be a regular at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2015 was his 27th Fringe) and at comedy festivals worldwide.

Also on the bill is Scott Gibson. Regarded by many to be the best act to emerge from Scotland in years.

Tue 11 - Sat 29 October, 7pm It's the dawn of the newly independent Scotland and in front of the world’s media the nation’s Foreign Minister is preparing to deliver her first keynote speech since the Yes voters prevailed.

Her speech should be outlining the new relationship with the now ‘former UK’; but she’s got something else to say, and she’s determined to say it.

At odds with her Party, they try to ensure she doesn’t drift off script and send in a Special Advisor to reign in the feisty radical.

It’s a brave new world and she has a decision to make; toe the line or take back control.

First performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2014, prior to the independence referendum, this humorous play offers an alternative insight into what might have been; an imagined moment in Scotland’s history... or perhaps a glimpse into the future?

Following on from The Witches, James and the Giant Peach and The BFG, Dundee Rep Theatre is delighted to present another classic story from Roald Dahl, adapted by long-time Rep favourite Stuart Paterson (Merlin the Magnificent).

George’s Marvellous Medicine will be bubbled up and served onstage this Christmas, with a side order of giant chickens and lots of laughter.

The year is 1978, and Britain is experiencing social and political turmoil with a strong threat of nationwide strike action and disruption for many public sector workers. For one group of Dundee cleansing workers, it’s business as usual... for the time being anyway.

This is working class humour at its raw best, transported straight from the streets and straight into the theatre.

Theirs is a sometimes thankless job of hard graft, sweat, grime and filth which they combat with serious bouts of heavy drinking and merciless exchanges of banter, mickey-taking and black humour. From the high hopes and expectations of a nation entering the World Cup in Argentina to the harsh conditions of an unforgiving winter, follow the scaffies as we step back in time to a culture long gone.

Inspired by photographer Richard Drew’s iconic images of a man falling from the World Trade Center during the attacks, Within This Dust has been presented to sell out audiences around the world including Sao Paulo, Berlin and New York City 3 times.

Multi award winner Mark returns to where he first started to perform, a red wooden shed in Wakefield, the labour club, to celebrate its 50th birthday. The show will involve the audience (in a nice way) to recreate the shed and its inhabitants.

This cinematic performance by Dundee based dance company Shaper/Caper, includes 3 live dance works blended with animation and survivors' accounts, which balance beautiful movement and subtle storytelling to explore themes of impact, loss, survival and humanity in relation to the stark horror of that day.

INTRODUCTION OF THE COMPANION TICKET SCHEME

Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre are set to introduce a new Companion Ticket Scheme for those who require support when they attend a performance.

Dundee Rep aims to make our building accessible to everyone. Here’s a little more information about the services we offer.

BSL Interpreted Performances allow patrons who are deaf or for whom British Sign Language is their first preferred language access to performances

There are many reasons why somebody may feel they need support to see a performance at the Rep and, should this be the case for you, or somebody you support, you are entitled to a free companion ticket when purchasing a ticket.

We offer relaxed performances of our Christmas show with a building wide awareness of the needs of young people and adults living with hidden disabilities. Our Creative Learning Programmes represent strong examples of integrated practice with a deep engagement in issues relating to social, financial and cultural inequality supporting our building wide understanding.

Full Wheelchair Access access to the Bar, Restaurant & Foyer areas. Please contact Box Office if you need wheelchair accessible seating in the auditorium as spaces are limited.

Captioned Performances are similar to television subtitling and give deaf, deafened or hard of hearing patrons access to performances.

Eligibility criteria for the scheme, which will launch in the autumn, is simple and, once you have registered, you won’t be asked again. All you need to do is provide proof of identification and either a letter of recommendation from a GP or community health organisation, or evidence of the following entitlements: • • • • •

Disability Living Allowance Attendance Allowance Blind Persons Registration Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

Audio Described Performances allow patrons who are blind or partially sighted to access performances Touch Tours usually take place approximately an hour and a half before the audio described performances and proved an opportunity for blind and partially sighted patrons to explore the set, props and costumes before the show through a combination of verbal communication and touch.

Touch Tours can be arranged if you are not attending the audio described performance.

Infra-Red system (for enhanced hearing).

We offer two different types of system.

Large-Print, Audio and Braille season brochures are available on request. Please contact Box Office if you require one.

Text Service our Box Office uses SMS text messaging for enquires and bookings for patrons with hearing and speech difficulties. Please text 07786 202 626.

BOX OFFICE Opening Hours Box Office is open Mon to Sat, from 9.30am to 6pm or until the start of the performance. Telephone booking is available until half an hour before the performance.

Concessions Tickets are usually discounted for Friends, under-26s, students, over-60s, registered dis abled, registered unemployed, and Equity/SSP members. Proof of status is required when collecting tickets.

Group Bookings For group bookings, an eleventh ticket is usually provided free for every ten purchased.
