Welcome Welcome to the Dundee Hills Passport Tour brought to you by the Dundee Hills Winegrowers Association (DHWA). For the 6th year running, the DHWA has assembled area wineries, restaurants, inns and educators for a weekend-long celebration of one of Oregon’s most treasured subappellations – the Dundee Hills. 30 wineries and tasting rooms will showcase their own personal take on this coveted winegrowing region. You’ll have the opportunity to taste through barrel samples from the 2010 vintage, new releases, verticals and a few library wines. Each stop on your tour will demonstrate the many flavorful and insightful folds of the Dundee Hills. We hope you’re staying the weekend and have the opportunity to discover the hospitality of our Inns and B&Bs and the wonderful array of talented chefs and legendary restaurants focused on local ingredients and wines. Taking the Dundee Hills Passport Tour Begin your weekend tour by filling in your name and address on the back page of the Passport (one Passport per person). Your Passport entitles you to one discounted tasting per winery/ tasting room or offer by DHWA member. Your Passport is also your ticket into the Dundee Hills seminar. You will receive a stamp on the page of each location you visit. Your Passport is good only for the weekend of April 16th and April 17th 2011. To enter our Passport drawing, please remove the back page of the Passport with your name and contact information and leave it at your last stop in the Dundee Hills AVA. You can also drop it off at any participating Dundee Hills AVA member no later than Thursday, April 21st 2011. About the Dundee Hills Formed in 2005, the Dundee Hills Winegrowers Association highlights the unique relationship between soil, climate and vintners as expressed through exceptional wines. Known by many as the epicenter of Oregon Pinot noir, the region plays host to vines planted over forty years ago. Pioneers David Lett, Dick Erath and the Sokol Blosser family expressed faith in the Dundee Hills later realized in 1979 when Lett’s 1975 Pinot noir finished in the top three of a prestigious blind tasting in France. The result put Oregon wine on the world’s stage, persuading iconic Burgundian producer Maison Joseph Drouhin to purchase 225 acres and construct a winery in the Dundee Hills. Just 28 miles south of Portland, the Dundee Hills American Viticulture Area (AVA) encompasses 6,490 acres. Some 15 million years ago, lava flowed from Northeast Oregon into the Willamette Valley, covering all but the highest peaks with up to 1,000 feet of basalt. The colossal Missoula Floods of 10,000-15,000 years ago deposited a blanket of rich sediment on the lowlands, sparing the original red volcanic hills above 200 ft. elevation mark around the town of Dundee. Today, the 200 ft. contour line defines the Dundee Hills AVA.

Passport Tour Seminar Each year the DHWA works to make the Passport Tour a special weekend to highlight the wines, food and hospitality of the Dundee Hills. We also work to introduce our guests to key aspects of what makes the Dundee Hills special. This year we will kick off the weekend with a Saturday morning seminar. Dr. Scott Burns, Chair Geology Arts and Sciences at Portland State University will speak on the geology and evolution of the Dundee Hills. Join us on Saturday, April 16th at 10am at The Dundee Bistro on 99w and SE 7th St in Dundee. Please reserve your seat by emailing: seminars@dundeehills.org
Passport Tour Prize Drawings Each year, the DHWA puts together a prize drawing as part of the Tour. This year that drawing is for 2 sets of 2 Dundee Hills World Tour packages (no cash value). With the Dundee Hills World Tour package you will receive 1 complimentary standard tasting at each participating Dundee Hills member throughout 2011 – up until February 28th of 2012 and receive valuable coupons from many of our restaurant and hospitality members.
