TOUR ITINERARY: DAY 1 – DEPART USA Depart for Lisbon on your overnight trans-Atlantic flight. DAY 2 – LISBON – FATIMA Arrive in Lisbon and after completing passport control obligations, you will be met by a Homeric Tours representative and transferred to the city to begin a tour. Discover the different districts of Portugal’s capital, such as La Alfama, El Chiado and La Baixa with its urban development subsequent to the 1755 earthquake. Also visit Belem and the Hieronymites Monastery, built in the Manuelino Style from the early 16th century and a pantheon to both the royal family and Vasco da Gama. The appearance of the Virgin in 1917 transformed the small town of Fatima into a destination for thousands of believers who make the pilgrimage every year and gather on the great esplanade outside the great NeoBaroque basilica with its colonnades and Chapel of Apparitions. Visit the university’s library and Romanesque cathedral before strolling down the narrow streets to the Carmelite convent where Sor Lucía, one of the Fatima shepherds lived and died. After a brief stop in the border town of Ciudad Rodrigo, arrive in Salamanca which is now, and has always been, more than anything else, a university city.
