PSL Rheotek Polymer Testing Determination of the solution viscosity of polymers in dilute solution (DSV) Solvent based viscosity measurement service The PSL Rheotek Polymer Testing Laboratory is equipped with a number of Rheotek Polymer Viscometers for testing the solution viscosity of a wide range of polymers.

The PSL Polymer Testing Laboratory can provide analysis of the following types of polymers: •

PET – ASTM D4603 – ISO 1628 – ASTM D2857 • PA – ASTM D789 – ISO 307 • PVC – ASTM D1243 – ISO 1628 • PP/PE (including UHMW) – ASTM D4020 - ASTM D1601 – ISO 1628 • Pulp, cellulose – ASTM D1795 – Tappi T230 – ISO 5351 Any other type of polymer that can be dissolved in organic or inorganic liquids

For PET, PA and PVC testing, the laboratory can provide a quick turnaround of sample testing using the RPV Auto system.

Samples can include a wide range of different crystalline grades (including high crystalline), as well as amorphous samples and post-consumer samples. The RPV is also suitable for testing samples with a high level of particulates, fillers or ash.

Testing will be carried out in full compliance with ASTM and ISO standards or as specified by the customer. Samples will be prepared on a weight-to-weight basis using the integrated sample preparation system.

Test Report For each sample preparation, the test report will include the following information: ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢

Sample ID and description Details of the viscometer configuration used for testing Concentration (including exact sample and solvent weight) Dissolution conditions (temperature and time) Average solvent flow time and interim flow times with precision obtained Average solution flow time and interim flow times with precision obtained Glass capillary viscometer (type, size, serial number constant) Testing temperature (including verification of temperature by certified reference thermometer*) All calculated results, including: Relative viscosity, Specific viscosity, Reduced viscosity Viscometer Number Inherent viscosity to 3 significant places Intrinsic viscosity to 3 significant places K-value Limiting Viscosity Number Custom results as specified

Results consultation After the submission of results, PSL Rheotek polymer experts will be available to answer questions. Please request assistance using the follow up email provided in the test report.
